They are talking rubbish! I had one years ago, the engine was tuned with race cams/twin 45 carbs etc pushing out just over 200bhp, 0-60 on mine was just under 7secs.
They do make for an excellent track toy though!

something seriously wrong with your set up then!

i had a standard mi16 on carbs, with 1.6 gearbox, and 0-60 in very low 6s

Nothing at all wrong with my set up, yes the 1.6 box would give it a quicker 0-60 time but as mine was an everyday car the g/box I had suited my needs for motorways etc.

Your stopwatch is defective or your set up WAS wrong.
A 205 with circa 200bhp is quicker than you state.

Alot will depend on gearbox, setup and most importantly how long the engine lasts, they do suffer from oil surge fast corners and have seen more than one eject a rod out the side of the block on track

From experience they do 0-60 in about 6 dead
A gti6 engined one will crack into the sub six second area

Love the 205 Gti forum fan boys guesstimating their 0-60 times.

Not one of you has official verified timings.

The 1.6 gear box means you have an extra gearchange as it won't hit 60 mph in 2nd.

They feel fast but you are all overestimating how fast from 0-60.

They feel quick, small light car with approx 160bhp will do, but they are nowhere near 5 seconds to 60.

This (when new) stuff is a load of faf though? Its one of those "Top Gear" things that only effects un serviced sheds.
Any decently looked after car withough a hole in the intake or exhaust should still makes its power.

there we go I was wrong its about 6.8/.9 then
http://pug205gti.moonfruit.com/#/mi-16-conversion/...

I think I was thinking about the gti-6 conversions which im more familiar with.

Most mi16 conversions have tb's and cams anyway so i reckon the majority are on about 170+ hp.

I have the gearbox problem in my R5 GTT. have to change a tough before 60 which is very annoying.

0-50 is mind boggling fast for a 1.4 :S
