Need a rant.
It started with my brother asking me to get his Clio 197 mot'd and taxed whilst he was away at work initially I thought it needed a tyre and discs and pads on the rear well on further inspection it needed a wishbone and discs and pads on the front... all this because he doesn't look after it. all in all with tax, mot, tyre, brakes and servicing its come to £758.90 without labour as ill be fitting it all and that's with between 25-30% discount on parts . Its a lovely car and needs looking after but he just doesn't seem to get it!

Not much of a rant i know and as for my English i know its bad i don't need to be told smile

Look after your cars before the big bills come!!

Well a quick look at the brakes just from the outside of the wheel i told him it needed rear discs and pads and maybe front pads and a tyre and after driving it to a friends garage today i could feel it lurch on a corner so that prompted me to have a quick look underneath and upon further inspection i found it needed a ball joint.. All the problems found could of been picked up on with a quick look, This arrogance of not having a quick look is not looking after a car to me.

Most people don't know what they are looking for and couldn't tell a ball joint from a ball pool. Others simply don't care and will drive the thing until whatever it is falls off. Others have fallen upon hard times. Difficult to generalise.

Tyres and stuff irritates me though as does driving around with warning lights and funny noises all the time. This is neglect and what kills most French cars in the end because the problems mount up and become painfully expensive to fix.

...that is nothing to do with him 'not looking after it' though. They just need doing and he had not spotted it. They would have needed doing regardless. confused

Both fair points... But I think in this case what annoys me is that fact that we were both raised in the same house by the same man so he knows enough about cars not let it go this far... He isnt the only person i know that does this though...

I used to wash and polish the "fleet" every week end virtually.
Regular wheels off, grease if req., check pads etc very fastidious. Even clean & polish under bonnet etc, regular hoover out.
Now we run a couple of older cars (a 2000Pug & a 98 Volvo), it takes me all my time to do anything with either.
At 59 and now no garage, I just can't be a**ed to crawl around on a cold wet driveway.
