306 thrown a wobbler?
Discussion
It's a 1.9TD Sedan, should be a simple solve really..
I'd come from work and dropped the lads off when the car died at the last stop (before home), was sat on tickover just died.
Called my old man after chuckin' a few spanners are the useless lump and 7 weeks later with the head off due to a suspected gasket failure there's no obvious breaks or cracks in any engine metalwork.
So, is there any sense in spending cash getting the head tested or could I bolt it together again and try for a compression test?
The car cost 95quid so I'm not sure if it's worth keeping. It's a unique enough motor round here, dont need to turn it into a money pit tho...

Oh, apologies.
I was advised by a couple of people it sounded like a head gasket failure and when I took the top end apart the gasket was 'split' of layers, and I didn't rip it out to cause that so unsure if that WAS the cause; but I have a new one and the top cylinder head was warped very very slightly, so paid 50quids to have it 'skimmed'(couple of thou taken off) and it's back now, just waiting for a day or 2's sun to get it bolted back together and see if that's worked.
Been offered a few quid for it from a local Pug enthusiast if I can't fix it so have to see how it goes, dont wanna sell but I've just been banned for 6 months so gives me time to find a new project to tinker with. If it is fixed and starts again then il get it stuck in storage til January when the licence is back.

There is no ECU in there so you can rule out sensors which makes life a lot easier. These have fauts with the stop relay and the cold start cable refusing to tighten up and making it difficult to start. I don't know what pump it has but if it's a bosch (looks like a UFO) there is a priming bulb that looks like a rubber hand grenade that I would try. Check the fuel filter isn't full of ste too.
I also wonder why you thought the easiest thing to do first was to take the head off?

I was sure I'd update this yesterday.. ?
Oh well, just about bolting it back together and was advised to make sure I had the shims and 'spacers' for the valves/cam right; but they're all the same size?
I was told the fronts were 8thou and the backs 16 - just gonna let daddy do his bit.
