Hello all.

I'm here looking for the collective help of PH.

A very good friend of mine recently got his first car, he inherited from his mum a Renault 5. Its a great little car and makes such a difference to the others you see on the road today. However, the steering column broke. To complicate matters further as his mum is a Frenchie and the car came across the channel with her, its LHD.

The local garage have said the part is now deleted, they cant get one, the car is now scrap.

This seems like such a shame to us as otherwise its in great nick. IT recently took us all to Devon and it really is his pride and joy, as well as the only means he has to go wake boarding etc as its his transport.

So to sum up, any ideas people? Where can we find a new steering column for a Left hand drive Renault 5 (non-turbo) No this isnt a quick one, but that doesnt matter this time, its potentially rarer being not only a leftie and non turbo but also......automatic!

So yeah, anyone got one we could buy? Or ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Simon

Does the column actually differ from LHD to RHD?

obviously the rack does and the UJ will go the opposite way when installed but I suspect that the column will be the same.

Its not my car obviously but i believe it is 3 speed. I'll try and find some pics on Facebook!

It just has such charm about it and is so unwittingly hillarious we have to keep it on the road.

Thanks for the responses il forward them to him.

I was recommended this company a while ago by my local garage:

http://www.southeast-businessdirectory.com/company...

Had the number sitting on my desk for decades and never got round to using them as scrapped the car I needed bits for but if my mechanic can vouch for them then I can too. Was told to speak to "Paul" if he's still there.

is that a original 5 or a super 5?
tons of both types on the road still in France so I cannot see this being a problem.

I believe it was mike at Turbo spares that came up trumps.

Which is handy as they are based in maidstone, only around half an hour from where we live.

So once again, thanks guys!
