About to get my son's Clio dropped on me to see if I can solve a problem of water leaks into the car. He has failed and his garage couldnt find the source either - without starting to strip out the car and getting into big money that is.

The car is about 5 years old and has a sunroof - but allegedly that isnt the problem.

Has anyone on the forum had a similar leak issue and if so what was the cause?

Does it have an aerial?

Sometimes, on the older ones at least, if it's not the sunfroof, it'll be the aerial.

As above the MK2 where known for very bad sunroof leaks, mostly from the seals not doing their job/perishing. People would use clear bathroom sealent and seal the sunroofs shut.
Can also be from the metal bits that allow the sunroof to pivot, replacing seals/applying sealent doesn't seem to help (without removing the metal pieces and using sealent on them)if its those causing the leak.
As pointed out the ariels are known for allowing water in.
Drainage tubes are also liable to blocking/becoming unattached and these will lead to dampness inside the car.

Not sure I would describe our problems as dampness, unless that includes a depth of 10mm!

We have damp headlinings by the front visors so that loks like the sunroof. But we have the 10mm depth in the drivers side rear footwell so where could that come from?

Fixed this problem on a Megane by clearing out the drains on the front of the gutters that run inside the A pillar and supposedly drop the water out behind the front wheels at the bottom of the sill. Long piece of stiff wire from the roof all the way through and then removed the stupid one way valves that were full of crap and stopping anything getting through. Then flushed the whole lot out with a pressure washer.

It looked very much like the sunroof leaking and I only found the fault by attacking the car with the pressure hose in various places until the inside started filling up.

bordseye its sounding like drainage tubes are your issue.
check they are attached as they should be and do as with the megane above to clear them.
