Ph1 172 5th gear whine

First venture into this section so here goes...
I've just bought a Clio 172 with a whine in 5th gear when coasting down and it has on a few occasions popped out of gear.
A bit of googling has revealed that it may be a common problem related to a loose bolt that can be accessed by removing the end plate on the gearbox whilst it's still fitted, but I can't find any more detail on it or a how to which would be really useful.
I've trawled through Clio Sport and the Renault Owners forums but can't find a how to, does one exist?
