I'm looking for some form of buyer's guide for the 106 GTi. Can anyone help?

What things should you look out for when buying?
What things typically go wrong?
What things cost £££ during general ownership (e.g. cambelts)?
Are any parts hard to get hold of?
Etc...

I'd really appreciate the help!

I've had mine 9 years now and tbh it's been a brilliant car .
Check the camber of the rear wheels as the axle is a weak point ( Bad design )
You might get the odd bit of lumpy idleing
As for bits , it's no more expensive than any other car in this class and most bits can be bought from an auto factors , so under cutting peugeot .
I have just had 2 new drive shafts on mine , but after 145k they are allowed to go , pug no longer make these so factor parts was the way to go .

As above, driveshafts can go, along with the rear beam. Look for rust in the boot floor where it meets the body. Head gaskets can be weak on these engines too. Electrics short out, make sure everything works. Normally starts in the rear light cluster.
Most of all though, don't settle for a cheap, ragged one! Take time to look for a decent one, there are plenty about thumbup
