Hi, just after some advice from anyone who may know...

Friends car is a 307 with the 1.4 8 valve engine. It will not rev past 3000rpm, almost like its hitting the rev limiter. It came up with a multiple misfire on the code read so i replaced the coil pack and plugs, this did sort the misfire but it will still only rev to 3000 the same as before.

It came up on the dash with a calalytic converter fault on the dash, im not sure if this is due to him driving it with a misfire as it is now gone and doesnt come back on. Ive ran the car with various multiplugs disconnected-air mass metre, idle control, lambda sensor etc and still runs the same. Just wondering if anyone had heard of this as i havent experienced many problems with this engine before. Also i did drop the exhaust from the manifold to make sure it wasnt blocked which it wasnt.

Any advice appreciated!

Do remember there being an issue with the TU 1.4 8v used in later 306's that a failed coilpack would "spike" the ECU. Not sure if it's the same management or even the same engine but might be worth a bit of searching. I have no direct experiance of this just remember reading it now and again on t'internet.

Did have a similar issue on a 1.4 Megane which was down to a collapsed cat which restricted the exhaust so much that it wouldn't rev about about 2500 rpm and made every gear other than 1st and 2nd optimistic.

Thanx for the replies, did a little more investigating. Turned out a coolant leak from the temp switch was leaking water onto the wiring loom and straight into the crank sensor. Sorted the leak and replaced the sensor and all o.k!
