My daily drive involves a 22 mile stretch of motorway, and a 6 mile urban/rural stretch. I really enjoy seeking out a good B-road at the weekend, but need a car that can cope well with both the daily grind and fun, weekend motoring. I also do the odd track day and like a car that has fast turn-in response, a responsive throttle and an adjustable cornering attitude. I prefer a naturally aspirated engine as I find that even in my current BMW 135i, I get frustrated by a bit of thottle/turbo lag.

Which of these two cars would suit me best given my requirements? I'm thinking Clio - but have heard that the ride on the Cup suspension is absolutely bone shaking......

The megane is supposed to have very little lag, and the clio doenst really pick up until the high revs so I wouldnt rule it out on throttle response alone

Dave the Clio is an excellent car on track and would do great on trackdays and would be much fun than the Megane, but surely not that great in motorway, you will miss alot of comforts and feel uncomfortable in it most of the time, the Megane doesn't have these problems thought, might not be as comfortable as the BMW but surely is great on motorways and good fun on B-roads,the Clio is a giant killer on B-road thought but wont have the grunt and the Torque of the Megane,as i know the lag is minimal and torque steer is inexistent in the Megane, best of both worlds and in your case the car to get.

Drive both the cars if you really decide to buy one of them thought.

I have a Clio with the Cup Chassis. It is bad if you have breasts apparently as they will bounce. Once it's on the move it transforms into a complete joy to drive. Track it and you realise how good it really is.

I've a 200 (non-cup chassis). On track it's still bags of fun, adjustable and grippy. But much than the cup chassis car day to day.

I'm honest enough to accept that a very, very skillful driver would get more out of the cup chassis on track. But 99% of us won't. As a daily compromise with a few trackdays per year, non-cup is the better option imo.

Ah Warren, i miss you on CS frown

Personally, i recently sold a 197 Cup after 3 weeks as it was just awful on the motorway, & 27mpg was a joke. In addition, it wasnt a patch on my 182 Trophy, which im very glad i kept!!

They are a good compromise car though imho, although i would have to go for the 200 with cup packs, it makes the overly light steering direct at least ...

Megane is more grown up, refined and pretty well bolted together. You will never notice lag in the 265, it's very linear. Clio is a lot cheaper but it feels it too.
There are very few cars available at any price that are more fun than the 265 and go for the Cup chassis no question, its ever so slightly bouncy at times but perfectly acceptable and what a car it is to drive. Will do all you want it to and more.
That said a Clio cup is a great drivers car and £10k cheaper. Not to be sniffed at.
