So i have sold the alfa and have got myself a 206 GTi, had it for a week and so far very impressed. Everything electrical works, climate control works, no squeaking trim, seats are comfortable. One piece of interior trim needs to be re-secured, which baring in mind it's nearly 9 years old is not bad at all. Its got a full pug history, 65K on the clock and two owners from new. The price £1200 smile It needs a cambelt change which I'm arranging ASAP and two tyres. Averaging 39 miles per gallon on my commute to work. Not bad at all!

This is the little fella below...

Looking forward to a few b road blasts once i have some new boots on it!

Good price and looks good in that colour. Bit more subtle than your average hot hatch. Sounds like it hasn't been ruined by some goon of a previous owner so shouldn't be too much of a headache. It'll run forever if looked after properly and only fall to bits quickly if neglected despite what everyone will tell you!

Nice one.

Got my OH one, had it over 2 years now which is a long long time for us! Only problem it gave us was a cracked abs ring which required a new CV (only £20) then ended up needing a new sensor.. the aircon packed in too last summer but it's not worth sorting.

Great car, I've had timing belt and waterpump, clutch etc all done and now going to run into the ground. Shame it's only on 56k it will probably take a while!

Where you based?

One of my favourite cars I've owned tbh, you can't beat it for the price... especially the interior! Mine unfortunately suffered from the 'randomly-switches-off-at-any-time' for which there is no fix. So I had to eventually get rid, apart from that I think it was only a couple of blown fuses in two years of ownership.

Thanks for the feed back. Got to say I'm loving the 206 more than I thought I would. It's rapid enough for what i need it for. Comfortable and quite quiet on the motorway which came as a surprise. Now i do have a knocking at the front which I think is the drop-links (think i read that these are prone to going) but need to get that looked at.

Oh i got two part worn Goodyear eagle F1 tyres for £30 each fitted with 5mm of tread on them... That was a good find!

Some bd key the car the weekend just gone so need to get to a paint shop to get that sorted out.,

Its quite deep but not down to metal, thankfully! If anyone knows of a good smart repair bod then i would be grateful. I live in Sutton but work in Potters Bar so either of these two places would be great.

Not bad value for money cars. We had the 206cc which had the 2.0gti engine until we sold it earlier in the year. Only problems we had over 40k miles was the coil pack failing (common problem) (80quid for replacement), one of the abs reluctor rings fell off (just replaced whole cv joint for 30quid), heater fan packing up (2nd hand replacements are rare as hens teeth if you have the climate control one, so we never bothered replacing it). The engine management light kept coming on which we traced to the cat convertor needed replacing.

All in all, great fun. Pretty nippy and we used to get about 36mpg out of it.

I had a Grand Tourisme some years back which I bought on the spur of the moment. It was great. Reliable, fun to drive, pretty cheap too. The only thing I hated was the long throw of the gearbox.

I had a GTi 180 for nearly 2 years and loved it. It wasn't very reliable, but it was pretty quick and had lovely recaros. The gearshift was a lot better than the standard cars as well, almost a totally different car.

Well I found out the source of the knocking noise I've had for the last couple of weeks, it was the catalytic converter guard! Which surprised me as it really sounded like I was having front ARB bush problems. So needless to say that's been removed. smile

I have, however, discovered that my offside ball joint has play so best I get that sorted.

Cars = money pits smile

What was unreliable about it?

Always fancied one of these after driving the better halfs 206 1.6 glx and how good it drove.
