Peugeot 407 Coupe
Discussion
These have popped up on my radar as something to look at as a alternative to the E46 Coupe. Can anyone offer any advice on the car? Both V6's in the diesel and petrol variety would be my choice, especially in auto form. The BMW looks the best bet on performance, but with a 05/06 Peugeot coming in around 4k seems great value for money.

407 Coupe is a nice car, the looks never suited the saloon or estate in my view. Unlike the saloon repmobiles the Coupe was pretty much only bought by private buyers who wanted them so presumably looked after them. Screwed together well enough but in my experience Peugeot automatics tend to be quite dimwitted.
Fantastic alternative to the German norm though but bear in mind the car is massive, its very wide and bigger all round than the saloon.

get the 406 coupe in v6
For half the money you can have an absolute minter, top of the range. Designed by pinfa(something italian) and you could get an 03 model which would only be 3 years older than the ones you've listed.
Plus brembo brakes, which look very smart on those wheels, no stupid shark grills as mentioned by the finding nemo fan..
I'm waffling here, I'l shut up.

With a st interior
The leather seats are one of the best I have sat in, maybe the dash layout is a bit st but the interior is pretty much the same blandness as bmw etc.Not as exciting as the 407 interior I'l grant you, but very tasteful and none of that fake wood.
I bought one from new. (With a massive discount).
Had it three years. Massive spec. Electric, heated everything. Never ever went wrong. Not a squeak or rattle. Costs over that time. A £125 service and two new front tyres. They look much better in the flesh than in pictures. Fantastic JBL stereo. Amazing seats. A very, very comfortable car to travel distance in. They only reason it went is that my family got bigger. In cash terms, I lost less in depreciation over that three years than any other German 'premium' brand I've owned. It was like brand new when I p/x'd it.

What are they like to drive? Read some reports that they are pretty big with large overhangs on the front, so parking can be difficult? The E46 is quicker, and probably has a better image.....but I just like the look of the GT version, especially full of toys.Had it three years. Massive spec. Electric, heated everything. Front double wishbone suspension (which is apparently good). I thought they handled great and I drive quite a lot of stuff through work. They are not a point and squirt sports car, but thet are a great long distance drive.
Full parking sensors all around (with colour display) if you're worried about parking. Mirrors automatically dip when reverse is selected.

I think I'm fairly safe in saying it won't be as quick as the BMW, or as reliable, or handle as well, or hold it's price as well. Also - Pug dealers are, in my experience, inept.
But, the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same things, if you like it then just buy it
