I hit a puddle too fast in December which set off my stop light, abs and brake system warning light off, car has run fine ever since with no problems. Prior to this the airbag light and service light were already on. Recently serviced car and decided it was time to turn the lights off, so ran diagnostics on the car which said to replace the ECU. Checked several of the sensors and all seem fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and what can I try to fix it other than removing the bulbs??

Can't help ref your latest problem. However, the airbag and service light illumination is down to a dry joint in either one, or possibly both, sensors that are cable tied underneath the frames of your front seats.

Where the wires go into the scotchblock underneath the seat, give them a good wiggle around on both sides, where they enter into and exit the scotchblock. Once you've done this, switch the ignition on, and the airbag and service light will go off after a few seconds. If not, try the same process under the other seat. How long the lights will stay off for, however, depends upon how dry the joint is/how well your wiggling has restablished the connection. As a rough guide, expect between 5 mins to 12 months... A permenant fix just requires the joints resoldering.

Hi,

The "replace ecu" fault means that the ecu has been triggered, probably due to clipping a kerb at some stage in it's life or by a voltage surge from jump starting the car.

Either way the ecu will need to be replaced with new or 2nd hand or have the data re-written on the bench.

Hope that helps.
