We've got a nice original and very tidy 205 GTI 1.9. It needs a respray on the roof however as the paint has peeled and also, its gonna need the valve stem seals done relatively soonish.
Anyone got any ideas what this would cost and also, how much value it would add to the car? Car has done 110K miles and has only got patchy history before we had it. But it is a very original car with hardly any dents, or scratches.
Basically Im weighing up whether to get the bits done or sell the car at some stage without...
Cheers

Blimey johno if you can remove the cambelt, camshaft, cam followers, valve springs (with a special tool)fit new seals and reassemble it all in about 2hrs !! you should have been working for me so I could have retired earlier and have a bigger pension pot.Yes the valve stem seals can be replaced this way but you wont get rid of the problem the leaking seals have caused. The best way is to remove the head and give it a full "valve job".The leaking valve seals will cause massive build up of coke around the valves, this can cause sticking, poor seating, poor performance and poor economy. Also the valve clearances should be checked and re-shimmed if necessary.By removing the head and giving it a decoke, recut the seats,re-shim,new gaskets and seals,it will cost a bit more, but your engine will run a whole lot better. This was such a regular job on the XU engines for us 20yrs ago we had reconditioned cylinder heads on the shelf ready to fit!.........PS...always use the genuine "green" Peugeot valve stem seals.
