Having some bother with my 306. Came into town to have a swift half with a friend, locked the car with the button on the key as per usual. Went to unlock it to give said friend a lift to the train station and it didn't work. Can't unlock with the key beeper. For some reason the barrels in the doors and boot are different to in the ignition, so I can't just unlock the door with the key. Looking at the key the red led is now constantly on, rather than just lighting when the button is pressed. Took the key apart and removed the battery, then put it all together again and all is still the same. At this rate it look like I'm going to have to put a window through tomorrow morning. Anyone had anything like this and can offer any advice? Car is a phase 2 with the 2 button key, if that makes any difference.

Looks like you need a new key fob, that`s the easy bit and not very expensive.Your biggest problem is opening the door because you have to hold the new fob up by the interior light press and hold the button and switch on the ignition to program it.Before you put a brick through a window why not experiment with trying to pull up one of the door lock pop ups.Make up something, pull the top of the door back and "go fishing". The cheapest glass to replace is a rear door 1/4 light.

Rear door quarter light is a nightmare to replace on a 306 requiring disassembly of the entire door. If you have to break a window, just break the drivers door window. £20 will get you one from a scrappy and it's a 20 minute job to fit. Just remove the door card and theres one clip at the bottom holding the glass onto the regulator.

You can replace the keyfob with one from a scrap car, just use your own chip and key blade and swap over the circuit boards. You'll also need the receiver to match which is mounted inside the interior light.

You don't need a reciever to match as the IR key (yours) can be reprogrammed to the cars existing reciever using the instructions in the handbook supplied with the car or having a hunt through google. The key blade itself can be swapped out into any fob.

If the light is on all the time have you thought about pulling the chip out of its housing in case one of the rubber buttons has fallen apart and jammed it down? The buttons are very fragile and normally fall to bits.
