What sort of money are we looking at here? The local Renault Specialist is quoting £455 for the belt and tensioner change, plus £144 for a 5 year service ('07 plate on about 52k miles). Just want to get a view of how much, if anything, we might save by shopping around.

Daft question (on behalf of the Mrs.) as I reckon I know the answer, but how (un)wise is it to leave it to the quoted 72k miles of the 5 years or 72k miles interval for the belt change?

TIA

It might be worth pricing it up for a waterpump change at the same time.

Plus make sure they change the auxiliary belts.

That's seems pretty decent money from what I have read its a big job. Are you having 5 year service at the same time if you are that seems good value. My 197 due it's 5 year service & cam belt soon and I been quoted by Renault not much change from £1k.

I would say its not worth leaving chance, mines done 28k & it's 2007, think its a matter of they start to perish after 5 years no matter the mileage and if it decides to go bang it will be very costly.

Most people say its not worth the risk, as said I would get water pump done at same time other wise all needs to come back out, if anything at least it would put your mind at rest!!

Yeah, I agree about the belt deteriorating over 5 years irrespective of the mileage.

Forgot about the water-pump, that's a good idea.

The wife will look at a couple of other quotes; KTec Renault who are local to us appear on the face of it to charge more than the Renault dealer who did most of the servicing on the car. Probably some hidden stuff that she is missing.

Renault dealer has said that as I am changing the cam belt I will also need to have the crankshaft pulley changed.....any views on this as it's another £160- odd quid for the part.

Just had mine done.

Aux and cam belt, pulleys/tensioners and water pump with the 5 year service £800
This was at a specialist local to me.

Including the crank pulley? Just 'bemused' that the dealer is quoting an additional charge for the crankshaft pulley....

its got a rubber damper integrated.some have failed on other engines causing extensive ( read expensive) damage. I think I'd have it changed if it were mine

Mine wasn't a dealer they wanted just short of 1k for the same.
Specialists are the way to go. I got everything done as I wasn't running the risk of anything failing in the 5 years till the next change. Better safe then a ruined engine.
A lot of the dealers charge is from labour.
