Big changes for Renault in the UK in 2012
Discussion
From SELOC (Lotus forum): In order to become a more profitable organisation, Renault UK will drop the following cars and vans in 2012:
Wind
Modus
Grand Modus
Kangoo MPV
Kangoo Van
Laguna Hatchback
Laguna Estate
Laguna Coupe
Espace
Grand Espace
Master Van
Master Chassis Cab
Just Clio's and Megane's from here on in then?
The above represents less than 10% of their UK volumes.
Renault currently account for less than 1% of new car registrations.
I guess the unreliablity of the 2002 onwards Laguna and 2003 onwards Megane have totally killed their reputation in the UK.

Good. Shouldn't have spent the last 20 years making absolute crap then. My Clio makes my 13 year old 306 look like an Audi with the level of fit and finish. I believe Renualt are more or less soley responsible for the modern perception of French cars (RS versions excluded of course )

Their market share is closer to 4% and certainly not less than 1%
Because ultimately that's what Renault (and every other manufacturer) want to do. They want to get their market share back. They will be thinking by cutting away the dead wood Renault UK can focus on increasing sales in the super mini/ family hatch ranges. Inevitably with a 1/3 less dealers it will mean longer distances or longer waiting times for many customers.

If you say so - but you are incorrect!CarlT said:

The more worrying thing about this is that they plan to drop 1/3 of their UK dealers and hope these reductions will help them sell more cars?! Customer service is going to take a kicking.
Who said 'sell more cars'? Why would customer service take a kicking? The dealers being pushed out have probably fallen short of the Renault standards for some time and are probably damaging what Renault want to achieve.
I would hazzard a guess that the cut dealers all made a loss for the last few years and marque investment & borrowing will be based on "return on capital" compared to their competitors. So it helps them to cut out failing & loss making dealers.

Renault have a new'ish dealer rating system. If they get rid of the under performing dealers (which are probably the ones that customers moan most about) the result should be more satisfied customers and fewer people moaning about French cars and their dealers and in the medium term increased sales, profits and market share. With Renault's focus on electric cars, the next few years should be interesting.

Not to mention that the last two Meganes have been larger inside than the bigger Laguna! (I know lets make a larger, uglier car with less room inside and charge more for it than the smaller, bigger inside one!) The French are amazing...
absolute rubbish I have a meg 3 and a meg 2 before it, the laguna 2 and 3 are bigger inside, I must have driven all of them hundreds of times so not sure were you got that assumption from ? The laguna 3 is actually a good reliable car compared to early laguna 2, are there any Renault dealers in this country which are not franchises ? I have no knowledge of any, the dealer I worked at untill last few months is in the top 3 and works closely at mo with ren uk .this has been in the pipeline for some time loose cannon said:

Renualts own interior dimension data in the manual and brochures clearly list the Megane as having a considerably larger boot, front passenger space is identical, rear legroom only slightly less.I've owned all of the car involved, driven several as hire cars and have two Meganes at home, they are like chalk and cheese with the Laguna.
My boot is not as big as a laguna 3. I can not fit my fishing gear in the boot of my meg 3, but I can in a laguna 3 so not sure how that's possible tbh perhaps you have a 4 door ? I don't read car brochures so can't comment on that,
