I'm about to acquire a 205 Mi16 with lots of mods (engine/stripped/cage/bucket seats/suspension etc).

So far I have got an online quote from Adrian Flux. I contacted Competition Car Insurance as I used them previously for an Elise but they will only cover a 205 on a non-road policy. I need road cover so thats useless to me. Tried Go Compare but none listed would quote online with the mods. So rather than just ring every insurer out there I'd like to target the right ones!

Cheers.

Oh and btw does anyone know how long the mods on '205GTi drivers' forum typically take to validate an account? I did the compulsory introductory thread thing last night (including stating 'I understand the rules' - wtf is wrong with a tick box?!!) but still don't have access to the forum.

Cant help with the insurance problem mate, just found it interesting you were looking into one of these. I rang a chap this week about an unfinished MI16, but decided I've got too much on to justify another project! :P

I was also going down the 205 1.6gti route for use in auto solos and club events, Insurance on that would only be £350, not too bad I thought.

Hope you find what your looking for! Could you not try some classic car insurance places?

Yeah I was going to get a 182 but decided I wanted something a bit more silly hehe

Tbh I have had couple of accidents in the past couple of years so was always expecting to get stung a bit. The previous owner was paying a quite reasonable premium. Think he told me all the mods rule out classic insurance though.

Where you not happy with Adrian Flux? I've always found them the best for modified cars... think I was paying around £550 for my modified R5 GTT with them. That was fully comp, 25 at the time I think with 5 years NCB.

Not really no. I was hoping to be quoted much cheaper. Wishfull thinking perhaps! hehe

Adrian Flux are my cheapest quote. Also my only one so far however! None others I tried via a comparison site would quote online. So I would really like to get something to compare against Flux but I don't want to waste time ringing inappropriate insurers, hence this thread. I'll also be calling Flux to see if I can bring it down at all (PH discount for instance).

Insurance clearly has gone up, so talking about past premiums doesn't mean much unfortunately. I got bent over to insure a '92 Merc worth £500 quid TPFT. I haven't done myself any favours having 2 fault accidents and 1 non-fault in the past 2 years though banghead

I've got my gti6 205 on a classic policy with footman James, all mods declared for £230 a year. You have to ring them up to get a quote for a modified car.

OK Flux have just quoted me much happier on the phone. Reduced the fully comp price to half what they quoted TPFT online! So much more in line with what I expected smile

HIC are part of the same group as Flux and could not better it.

Footman James have forwarded me on to a couple of other brokers who will get back to me once they've made a few calls.

Hi John,

Maybe try Sky Insurance as well - I'm currently with them. I normally get quotes from Sky, HIC/Flux and Footman James on renewal.
