megane heater resistor replacement
Discussion
Hi. I have recently bought a 55 plate megane 225.
The blowers will only work on setting 4. I have gambled on the fact it is the resistor that's broke and have got a new one from Renault. They want 170 quid to supply and fit.
Has anyone changed one of these themselves so could possibly talk me through the process? Is it something that can be done without specialist tools or knowledge?
Thanks, Dave.

It's worth checking the fan motor itself. Sometimes the motors can tend to seize particially and this overloads the resistor. But the resistors are made from chocolate - worth checking fuses first of course, and see if everything else electrical works on the car.
The window regulators arn't a nice job. I've done hundreds and still hate doing them.

Hi there,
I have a Megane with climate control in which the fan sometime starts working after a while and sometimes it doesn't.
When it works, it respond to all speeds.
When I supply it direct electrical-current it seems to work fine.
I changed the resistor MOSFET and it seems better for couple of weeks then it came back.
Is it possible that the climate control computer is faulty?
Is it possible that the fan motor works when supply direct current but not when going through the resistor (because current is "stronger")?
Also, any idea what's the function of a thick fuse-like unit on the fan cap? (it was currently disabled on my car but I wonder if that's what started the problems)
Thanks guys,
Adi

I had a similar (but different!) thing on my Scenic.
Mine stopped working on number four. Renault wanted to remove the dashboard and replace the resistor pack and wiring loom at a cost of about £350.
Turns out you can remove the cowling around the instrument panel and clean the contact - job done! (Took five minutes).
But - the wiring loom plug it poorly wired and can melt. If there's only one mains feed, it overheats and damages the rest of the plug. You can get a modified loom that has 2 x mains feeds that fixes the issue. On the scenic you can pull out sufficient loom to splice in a new one, not sure about the Megane but I'm sure it'll be a similar thing.
If the resistor pack 'dies' you can buy a chip for less than a quid from Maplins and solder it onto your existing one (apparently - I'm repeating from Renault Forums here).
Return the part to Renault asap, get on Renault forums, do a search and you should be able to fix the issue with minimal electrical skills (assuming that you can get to the part as easily as you can on the scenic).
Hope this helps!
Renault build great cars, but they let themselves down (very badly) with the quality of some of the wiring and their customer care.
