Decent/knowledgeable Clio forums?
Discussion
I always join a forum when I am looking to buy a car, to find out what I should be looking for and what common problems and solutions there are. I came from the VX220.org forum which is a fantastic place with lots of clever clogs and a functioning search facility.
I've recently invested in a Clio Williams to initially use over the winter as opposed to the Z4 but after that I will be looking to restore it. It is not in the best of nick at the moment and needs a few jobs doing but I am struggling to find a decent forum where I can get many/all of the answers I need.
The ClioWilliams.co.uk doesn't have enough traffic and the search function is terrible, and ClioSport.net seems to cater for the 172 and later variants so I am struggling somewhat.

I use that for all my Clio needs! Seems to be a bit busier than ClioWilliams.
Pretty good for picking up second hand parts as well.

I think Cliosport.net is going to be your best bet, as you say it's aimed mainly at 172/182 models but there are plenty of people on there with MKI clios and plenty of people have come from them.
The cliosport forum does move very fast and have a lot of knowledgeable people on there, you might just have to ask more questions rather than using the search function.

Yup. Although there's the typical "Yo bruv how duz I fits dis induction kit to me 1.2 to make it sound well wickid?" kind of posts there's also a good bunch of traders/garage owners/mechanics that really know what they are talking about over the whole clio range from willams to the 200.The cliosport forum does move very fast and have a lot of knowledgeable people on there, you might just have to ask more questions rather than using the search function.
As a whole cliosport is pretty useless for info & bits on the Mk1's in my experience, the people on there are mostly of the newer is better mentality
www.clio16valver.co.uk is much busier than williamsclio so you're more likely to get what you need on there

Have to just say ClioSport is good... it's the only forum I pay to use. Never had any problems on there. The only thing that winds me up a little is users with 20k+ posts thinking they own the forum and that people with lower post counds aren't worthy to be in the same thread as well.
However their rants usually just end up making me laugh so it's worth it in the end

Well it's utterly useless for anything Mk1 related
You just need to ask the right people (foxy, whitley or sideways danny)I don't read any posts with txt speak in, its a really good way of avoiding the morons.

I know all of them & if they weren't on there it'd be even worse than utterly useless for Mk1 stuff but those guys are all on williamsclio & clio16valver as well which are both infinitely more useful than cliosport for anything mk1 related, as there's a whole bunch of other people on them who know just as much as those guys & will be able to help out much quicker than anyone on CS.
+1. And you therefore don't have to read all the cr4p spouted on CS.I'll give you a good example as to why CS is crap for any useful advice on mk1's....
...I asked in the technical section for advice about having a wobbly speedo about a week after I bought the car & what was wrong.
The reply I got to that was your car has been thrashed to buggery, you should have walked away from the sale & bought a newer car followed by a few others agreeing with that statement .........that's pretty much the direction most advice relating to mk1's go in my experience.
1 of the actual causes to that problem is that the speedo drive on the end of the cable has a square peg on it that is spun round by the internal workings of the box & over time the edges of the square peg wear & round off causing the speedo needle to bounce. Renault subsequently found out about this problem & solved it by redesigning the part so it was more of a star shape instead of a square making it last much longer.
The other cause would be a dodgy speedo cable, so the moral of the story is don't bother with cliosport if you have a mk1 clio

Ahh, thems were the days! I'd totally forgotten those little traits of my mk1.
On one of mine you had to get a metal skewer and poke through the drainage holes in the sill every few wekks to let the water out!

I wonder if that could be another weight saving measure I could employ for track day & 1/4 mile use in mine
I know that the OP has joined WC so he's halfway there just C16v to go & he'll have all the info he'll ever need & I'll give you another example why those 2 sites are better than CS - even after well over 5 years ripping mk1 clios to bits & putting them back together again, I'm still learning new things from those places, today being a prime example, someone posted about a fan problem which I started to think had to be wiring related to 1 of the sensors that I thought did 2 things but turned out to be another sensor at fault because the sensor I was thinking of only does 1 thing.
Now that's 2 minor snippets of info I've posted up that have been of massive help to me that there's no way in hell you'd have ever managed to get from CS
