I think the clutch has gone on my gf's 1.1 106....if the engine is running you can not select any gears but if you knock the engine off you can?? Car is currently parked up and needs towing. Does this sound like the clutch, or could it be a cable etc??????

What does the pedal feel like? In other words is the pedal at the top,got full travel, and feels like its depressing the clutch.Have a look at the lever on the gear box at the end of the cable and get someone to press the pedal,I have known the lever to crack and bend.I always replace a cable when I fit a new clutch on PUGS because it has an auto adjuster in it, so start with a cable then be prepared for a new clutch.Easy job on a 106 with that little MA gear box.

What he said, except it's a manual cable on the 106.

Regarding the clutch pedal you have to really force it right to the floor to get any gear to engage (when the engine is off) absolutely no chance of selecting a gear when engine is running, so I really think the clutch has had it?? Dont know whether to sell for spares or spend cash on fixing it? Only paid £250 for the car so I really dont want to spend any money on it if poss

Surely its better to spend a little on a cheap car than an expensive one?
