I've got a Xsara Picasso 1.6HDi

Very versatile car, very comfy and amazingly economic to run I regularly get 70+mpg on run's to Oxford and back from Bournemouth and have even seen 79mpg average for the trip.

Nothing springs to mind so far regards any problems other than I'll have to change the cam belt shortly purely as it's due on mileage which I'm not looking forward to doing. Bit awkward to get at the belt basically. Other than that all I've had is a light bulb blow and the AC needs a refill. Oh and the radio occasionally changes channel but that I think is due to a weak signal as it tends to do it in the same village

Scenic I have no experience with but did consider them when I was looking. Don't regret for one moment getting the Pic

Oh just thought of the one thing that's not good on the Pic... on sweeping right hand bends in the road the front windscreen pillar gets in the way and you have to move your head to see round it better. But that's it!

My Wife had a new 2000 Scenic (2.0L petrol) on which the rear wings started rusting at a couple of years old, the rear sunroof (it had 2) was prone to jamming and the throttle once stuck in the full open position yikes all were sorted under warranty, although the sunroof problem recurred later, otherwise not too bad and was fairly quick although lots of body roll and acheived IIRC around 35mpg.

She now has a C4 grand Picasso 1.6hdi (so not a Xsara), had it a year and so far no problems, averages around 50mpg.

Both are practical for moving people and also double up quite well as small vans but obviously not the most inspiring drive...

Picasso ,best overall engine 2.0 hdi,1.6hdi suffer sensors, leaking injectors and turbo's failing.
I always suggest 2.0hdi and 1.6 petrol to my customers.
They don't seem to have many inherent faults, but like lots of modern cars springs and balljoints are reasonably common.

We looked at both, and for that money the Picasso knocked the Scenic and Zafira into a cocked hat. Cheaper to tax, better economy, more roomy, better ride, more cubby holes etc....all the st that makes life with kids a bit easier.

I've actually grown to like ours! It's a 2003 2.0 HDi Desire 2 (oooh!). Only cost £950, can park it anywhere and not care, does 45mpg around town and the kids like it because they can see out. It swallows anything you take near it and just makes life easier in general.

I used to be one of the "I'll never have a people carrier" types but in the last month or two I've been completely won over and I'll continue to have one until they don't need car seats anymore!

Picasso, by a country mile.
As some one else suggested not the 1.6 hdi.
