Morning all. Just been checking Parkers for prices, which naturally seems well out and used values seem a little all over the place.

Can anyone tell me what they think a 2004 Clio 182, 40,000 miles with both packs and in good nick is worth as a private sale?

Viewing a car on Saturday and really want to offer a fair price, though currently think his asking price at £4500 odd is a little high.

Cheers

Depends on a few things. Location is a biggie, followed by cambelt history which is expensive and will need to have been done on that one, how complete/anal the service history is, where it's been serviced, etc.

Even so I'd say that is a touch on the high side and wouldn't want to pay anywhere near that for a private sale in case the car turned out to be a bag of bolts. For that money I'd want an immaculate car, a dealer and a warranty (which I got with mine) just in case. I'd personally pay over the odds for a really good car with very good history and all the problems rectified than save a grand on a potential turd.

In a minute you'll be shown lots of knackered, chavved and otherwise ruined examples of the same car on ebay for 20p thus demonstrating these cars "real" value. Forums are very good for driving down the price...

You could be into a trophy for that sort of money. As said it may be worth it if its had the cambelt done and is mint but personally (flamesuit on) id rather a cheaper example as they can be had for a couple of grand and its really just a clio.

When you say location - you literally mean where the car is? Sorry, I know that's sounds bit thick on my part. Also its had two owners and last service was done 4000 miles ago by Renault and the bloke selling it says its mint. (Though obviously he would - but it does look nice from the the pics.)

But the trophy will hold its value that bit better which could negate the cost of damper refurb if it was ever needed. And soo much rarer.

Yeah, I know what you mean. By the way, hasn't that one got the wrong seats?

Also, is the normal 182 really that different to drive?

Yeh that one does not have the Recaros so probably not the best example.

I have only ever driven a few cups but to be fair I would expect them to be pretty similar.

More the rarity factor, colour and seats that do it for me.

Or for a few quid more... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-RENAULT-CLIO-RENAUL...

Indeed. These cars from what I've seen seem to fluctuate wildly in price depending on where they are - seemingly more so than other stuff I looked at. Far more valuable in the South East for example.

ETA: I would probabily be trying to up the budget a little and looking at Meganes for that kind of money. The Clio is fun but (as said) it is still a Clio and £5k is a lot.

The car's in Kent. In the darker blue (not the racing one), 40k, both cup packs, 2 owners, new discs and pads. Will dig out the description.

Re Megane - really after just a little hot hatch to run alongside my Subaru.

Arctic Blue then, lovely colour (though liquid yellow would be my choice) nice that its got both cup packs.

I'd say 4500 isn't a hideous price. Probably close to a retail price though.

Try and pay closer to 4. Nice car for that.

If it's as original as it sounds check the exhaust and mounts carefully. Expensive to replace and seemingly crap quality. Most have aftermarket ones.

Is there a simple way to check them without getting the car up on a ramp? I'm not the most mechanically minded..

If the mounts are knackered the tailpipes will droop and be easy to wiggle about by hand. If the exhuast is knackered it'll bow (sound like a fart) and be rotten around the joints and the welds. Surface rust if fine and normal smile

Cheers, that's really helpful.

Incidently the mounts aren't the expensive bit - Prima racing upgraded ones are about £35 from memory (well worth the extra tenner from the standard ones imo) but you need two for a 182 and flapping about will break a rotten exhaust.
