As the title asks, i have been looking at first cars for last 2 weeks now, test is November 4th and hopefully will be starting an apprenticeship so will need a car. A friend of mine has the VTR but the insurance is too high so i thought i would look at the Furio. What are your thoughts on this model? judging by the owners review's on Autotrader, it sounds a fun little car and the insurance group is 3.

Thanks.

I had one of these back in 2004, kept it for 4 years/40k miles, great choice for a first car. Obviously not going to set the world on fire with 80ish bhp but they handle really well, and can even provoke a bit of lift off oversteer if you have one of the earlier models without ESP. At the time my OH had a Punto and the C2 was night and day better as a driver's car, easily +10/15mph quicker through most corners where the front end of the Punto would wash out into understeer.

There's loads of space in the front of these and they are absolutely fine on the motorway. The 1.4 has enough pace to keep up with the traffic and not feel dangerous, where some 1.1's take so long to get up to speed it's positively lethal.

If you have a lot of friends you are planning on driving around they will not be especially pleased unless they are under 5"2, there is bugger all space in the back. Far less than a lot of other small cars so something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the reply, after looking at a few cars including Punto's, the C2 is the one that stands out for me.

Yeah, just a great fun little car. You get 95% of the handling of the faster models (i.e. VTR/VTS) but not as quick which is probably a good thing as a first car. I always found it had just enough grip to keep me out of trouble before I really knew what I was doing, whereas if I'd got a VTR/VTS would probably would have ended up in a ditch....

i have a 1.1 C2 furio and i think it is quite a good first car, it is very slow on the motorway which is why i had to add a little bit of power which really has helped so i think will be fine having the 1.4 as a first car. there are a few people on here with C2s so if you have any questions feel free to ask me or some of the other guys.
