I've been having some trouble with Citroen UK Customer Services. My car failed when just 12 days outside its warranty, requiring the replacement of Dual Mass Flywheel, Clutch and, several days later, the Starter Motor.

I have been a loyal customer of Citroen cars, my last three cars have been a Picasso, C5 and C4. Until December last year the servicing for all these vehicles was done at the Citroen dealership in Blackburn. Due to me leaving my employment in Blackburn most recent servicing and the repairs for this breakdown were done at the local dealership just a few miles from my home. Because of this the local dealership would not put forward a strong case to Citroen UK for a goodwill gesture toward the cost of repair (£1800). The dealership mistakenly believed that Citroen UK would be aware of my previous servicing records with other dealers and would act accordingly. Citroen UK did nothing and when challenged by me directly would simply state that the car was out of warranty and they would not make any gesture of goodwill.

Citroen's goodwill system it would seem is based purely on loyalty to a particular dealership, the problem with that is that if, like myself, you move jobs and instead of getting all of your car maintenance done at one dealer you move to another all of the goodwill you may have built up over the years counts for nothing.

It would seem that Citroen UK's goodwill scheme is seriously flawed and they would find it in their interests to reconsider it before they lose too many customers.

Many years ago I worked for Peugeot(Citroen)and in those days I would have expected a claim like this to go through. With a car under warranty a fault would be rectified in any Dealer in the UK.The network looks after the owner so if an owner is loyal to Citroen and its network that should go a long way.I can not believe they are turning there backs on you after 12 days!!! what was the mileage of your car?that would be a factor in your favour if low.Do not give up,have another go,more advice etc, take time on a letter to the MD at Citroen, full service history, your past Citroen`s,all the facts. One thing in your favour,I know for a fact that Peugeot/Citroen have had big problems with duel mass flywheels and have replaced many OUT of warranty.Best of luck.

i had some issues with citroen with my C2. i ordered some screws and mounts for the rear spoiler and i only got the mounts when i ordered the parts back in march, i made several trips to the dealer and they told me the screws were on order, then were late, then not sure and about 4/5 months later citroen say they havent got any and didnt even tell me as i had to go to the dealer just to find out, im not getting a citroen for my next car.

Thanks for your comments guys. The car had done 59,000 miles but in the words of the dealership manager, "that's not excessive".

In my last conversation with Citroen UK when they refused to offer anything further I asked, "Is that because you can't, or because you won't?". Their answer was. "Won't".

I am now looking for a new car. I think you can guess which dealershipI won't be visiting.

I am a bit torn with this one

If you had not renewed your house insurance & your house burnt down 12 days later, your old insurer wouldnt even talk to you, so why would you expect a car company too.

On the other hand your long term loyalty to the brand should be recognised.

If I were you, I would ring your old dealer and ask for a print out of the history on all your vehicles, then get a print out of the recent services etc, this is quite easy for them.
Then write in to the Citroen UK Customer Services and ask, this will probably find someone new and you may get a fair hearing.

Good luck, years ago one of my customers had a diesel ax engine, it split a liner at 28000 miles. It was proved the block had been bored out of line but citroen didn't want to know.
My customer had driven citroens for 25 years,it made no difference, try trading standards or watchdog.

This is disgraceful. I would move to another (decent) manufacturer.

Put your situation in an email to the likes of Auto Express, they like to take up issues like this and talk to Citroen on your behalf.

I love Citroens but the the dealers are something else,I lost count of the number of arguments I had when my Xsara was still in Warranty. When I purchased my first Xsara S/hand from a main dealer the salesman who I asked about picking my car up as the salesman I had bought off was on a day off replied with " I know nothing about this, only that you did not buy the car from me" cue two hour wait while car was taxed and prepped.Dont even get me started on the day I was told they could not do an M.O.T that had been booked for two weeks prior or the the damaged laquer on the rear pillar that was bodged three times before I got trading standards involved.

The other day I visited the workshop of my local Citroen dealership to meet up with an old work mate.I was amazed at the amount of engines that had been removed and stripped down. The work bays were full of major jobs and all these where on late model cars that were UNDER warranty. What`s going on?no wonder they wont help you, they must be spending a fortune on warranty at it is.My friend, who is a master technician, used to work with Honda and Toyota but left because he was "bored".He never removed an engine or did any major work, just servicing,as they never went wrong. My advice is visit your local Honda or Toyota Dealership to see what is on offer.

I have driven 8 different Citroens over 200,000 miles in the last 5 years and NOTHING has gone wrong with any of them, not even a single recall. I drive VERY HARD and unforgiving on the cars and they have all stood up much much better than my Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, Ford Focus x2.....etc etc

How does this fit with your comments ? Am I just lucky 8 times ?

No disrespect, but fair play to them for being completely transparent about what they were (or weren't in this case) going to offer you.

I agree with you,but I am talking about all the very latest Peugeot/Citreon engines,DMF`s,etc etc.I have been with Peugeot (Citroen)for over 40yrs including 25yrs with my own Peugeot Specialist business(I don't sell them, just repair).I too can give plenty of examples of high mileage no fault cars.I have many customers with old 406 & 306 models, great cars, never gone wrong.Do I recommend they replace them with 407 or 307??? I just list all the faults I`ve repaired on 407`s and 307`s that never needed thinking of on 306`s and 406`s.I still say, what has gone wrong?the cars are not as reliable and robust as they where,we call them "PlayStation Cars",great looks, plenty of "Giz Moz" but lots of problems.

I see your problem........wrong brand ! biglaugh
Should be a Citroen Specialist !!

All joking aside, my experience has been with the modern stuff. C5 at the moment is bullet proof.
Picking up a DS4 next week, looking forward to that. That said I loved my 306.

Citroen is becomming the primary brand for PSA when you look at some of the sales figures, Pug seem to of gone in the wrong direction
