After putting the car up for sale on all the usual places over the past 2 weeks, i`m finding it hard to believe i have had no calls or messages. Is there something wrong with my advert.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3202876.htm

I feel the car is priced to sell as its in mint condition and has been extremely well looked after from the previous owner with receipts for every nut and bolt.

Is it just me or is the car market extremely slow?

Thanks for your advice.

Kenny

Too expensive and is getting close to needing it's belts done again within the year (every 5 years). 'Exclusive' is a bit marmite, some don't like the colour.

Take it back to standard as much as possible, advertise the induction kit, exhaust, springs & dampers on Cliosport as a p/x for standard parts, you should get some takers & a standard car should sell easier, you'll also recoup some cash to allow you to drop the selling price.

I don't think the mods are an issue, apex springs are a normal mod and I'd be surprised if it never had an aftermarket exhaust. Maybe you could put the induction back to standard though... Not that it should really put buyers off.

The photos are shocking though and make it look, IMO, a bit dodgy. Take some better pics that do it justice, borrow a camera if needs be

Not to be rude but could you of cleaned the wheels before taking the photo's? The Clio Sport market is flooded at the moment and many new buyers would prefer to buy a phase 2 or a 182 altogether.

Personally I think it's overpriced and, I realise that you can hardly help it - but "Midlothian" doesn't assist you pool of potential buyers either.

I have a ph2 in similar condition but totally standard which has done 54k and I reckon I'd be pleased with £2k for it (if it were for sale)!

Take some prepping the car and then take some nice clear photographs would be a start.

The wheels are filthy dirty, the tyres have no dressing on them and the boot is dirty as well (just for starters)...

I think the problem is, as others have said, at £2k people may prefer a Phase 2 or 172 Cup. Even £2.5k would get you into a Clio 182 which is a much newer car. If I were after an exclusive Clio I would rather put £2k into a Williams personally.

The ph1 exclusives have never commanded much of a premium over the 'non-exclusives' and I saw one on ebay recently not make its starting bid of £900.

Yours is clearly a nice example and probably one of the nicest left but you will probably have to wait a while for someone to give you near to £2k for it.

The 'no offers' may be putting people off as I interpret that as meaning you are not prepared to have a common sense discussion on price.

All IMO of course. Good luck with your sale.

Make sure the car is properly prepped befor taking any pictures! The minging wheels and dirty boot don't really fit with the description of 'mint', and 'the best out there'.

As others have said, it's probably too expensive. For that kind of money, I'd look for a 182 too.

Maybe a ropey 182 for £2 but I'd certainly be expecting a decent 172ph2 or reasonable 172 cup for that money.

For what it's worth my ph2 172 was bought last week for £2k and is near mint with FSH, every single receipt and MOT and only 43k miles.

For what its worth i've bought 2 x clio cups in the last 3 months;

1 x 2002 with 68k, fsh, long mot, 3 prev owners, very tidy - £1650

1 x 2003 with 84k, NO history at all, bit tatty - £1000 (being turned into track car).

I've had lots of 172's now and think they are just great value.

This.

OP. Goalposts have moved dramaticly in the secondhand car market. All I can say is before anyone advertises there P&J go on ebay and click completed items. See what similar cars are ACTUALLY selling for. Most of us will be very suprised. bmthnick1981 has shown what state the market is for clios sports. Realisticly I'd say your car is hugely overpriced. A more realistic asking price would be £900 with a view to taking between £650 and £850.
Simply put. Nobody wants a small car with a big engine, Youngsters aren't interested in fast hot hatches these days. They're just no longer cool. And anyone old enough to afford the group 16 insurance would rather buy a mini cooper or a fiesta ST. I'm generalising obviously. And I own a 172 cup. I just wish i bought mine this year instead of paying full whack last year.
