Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help??

Last year I bought a modified 1360cc 8v engine for my race car....I believe it is an old AX block with a traditional screw on oil filter. In parallel I have had an engine machinist working on a 'new' engine which will use some of my existing parts and some new items.

The 'new' engine uses a 106 alloy block which has the following characteritics:
1) Female thread into block where the oil filter is meant to screw on.
2) 3 x Additional blind threaded holes and 1 x additional through hole in block around the perimeter of where the oil filter would normally sit

I believe items 1) and 2) are for fixing the original oil 'cooler'/heat exchanger onto but I want to replace this with a traditional screw on oil filter as per the AX alloy block.

I can buy a male thread to screw into the block to screw an air cooled oil cooler adapter plate or filter onto but I canot see how the filter/adapter plate will seal the through hole in the block.

Has anyone done a similar mod / is a custom blanking plate required to seal the through hole? if so, can you point me in the right direction? or am missing something obvious?

Thanks,
Mike

It sounds like it had a paper element oil filter housing, ithink you will need the old style oil cooler to be able to fit the spin on oil filter.

Thanks for the comment - think I'll opt for a male thread adapter and plugging up of the holes so that a spin on oil filter can be used.
