Xsara Electrics?
Discussion
Strange occurrence today on my runabout, I drove it back home from my girlfriends, after 2 hours realised I had left some of my things there, went out to the car, ignition on glow plug light goes out fiddling with the radio, go to turn the car over and everything dies, all the electrics, everything.
Try several times to get the car started or electrics on, nothing, leave the keys in the ignition at the electrics on bit, and look for the bonnet release (thinking the battery has died) and just as randomly as they cut out, they all return.
Decide to drive to my girlfriends in my other car, by the time it gets back its too dark to have a root around.
The clock has been reset to 00:00. I am going to have a look tomorrow, but im not the most mechanically minded, so was hoping for some advice. My original assumption based on what happens is maybe a duff battery or a bad connection from the battery.
Any advice is welcome, thanks.

It does sound like the battery's had it. Had one in the Saxo the other day, where the car behaved completely normal (so all lights etc work, horn loud, windows going up and down) until you tried to turn the engine over. Then everything dies! Leave it, try again, same again.
Charge battery during the day, all fine now! I guess it's just the way the power is distributed from the battery.

I think it's unlikely to be the battery itself. To be so flat that the clock would reset I wouldn't imagine it would turn over afterwards without a charge. Especially a diesel. Had mine die on both my 306's and the early warning sign is all the clocks maxing out for a few seconds when the car is first started. Basically the same car, wiring, engine etc.
Chances are one of the clamps on the battery terminals is loose or knackered. They're not very brilliant and can be replaced for pennies with a generic one.

The clamps were loose so I have replaced them and all is working...well kind of.
When I turned the car over the clocks went haywire, and now the speedo needle is stuck under the bloody bump stop.
Is there anyway to manually reset the speedo, or to coax it back round without taking apart the dash?
