Can't say specifically for such journeys, but overall I'm amazed at how good my 172 is on fuel. In mixed use I get 34 mpg and however I drive I've never been below 31 - measured properly rather than just taken off the OBC.

45mpg once read from my trip computer in my Clio 172cup. That was managed by driving at 55mph for 50 miles. Took serious patients though!

28 mile Mway commute easily gets 37-38mpg on Super. If I nanny it then I can get over 40mpg.

Average mixed driving turns in around 34mpg.

Excellent for the performance IMO.

172 cup. The worst I have had it is 33mpg. Best was Cardiff to Windsor and back 47.7mpg But that was being very anal about it.
General driving with plenty of foot down hoons and plenty of laid back cruises, over the last 900 miles i'm getting just under 37mpg.
Very good for the amount of fun these cars give. I doubt a better MPG/FUN/OUTLAY compromise exists to be honest.

realistic expectations about 32mpg on short journeys like that.

I do mixed road/mixed traffic journeys and average 350 miles a week and get 33-34mpg from my standard W plate 172.

My Mrs has a short 3 miles to work with stop/start traffic and gets 25-30mpg in our 172ph1. On a motorway we easily get 40mpg

I did 3000 miles around Europe at the start of last month, I got 39.8 MPG on the trip computer.

Generally its down nearer 30 around town.

just re-read...

I think 30 MPG with 3 mile from cold trips.

worth mentioning that replacing the Lambda sensor at around 70K miles will see a few MPG increase... worth changing if you do loads of miles. mine moved from 39 to 42 MPG as a result of the change.

I reckon you'll be looking at about 33mpg for short trips, you'll be short-shifting from cold anyway. My 172 Cup did 45mpg on a 50 mile trip the other weekend, it's brilliant. I did 63 hard miles at Brands Hatch in July, maximum revs the entire time, and it still did 18mpg!

I average 36 no matter what out of my mk2 172. That tends to include at least one 2 hour que a week @ 50% city driving, 25% motorway and 25% thrashing.

According to the OBC, I get 28 ish around town and up to 37mpg on a run, but that's usually mostly over 80 leptons or so.

I have a 182 (if you couldn't guess from my username tongue out )

They are exceptionally good on fuel, I get around 30 mpg round town and nearer 40 mpg on a run. Mine are 172 Cups. I don't monitor the MPG that closely but the figures mentioned are easily achievable.

Change gear man! wink

<30 is basically impossible.

My lowest MPG over any length of time was 125 miles on 5 gallons - but that was in the snow last winter, so most of the time was spent with the engine on clearing the windows, spinning wheels around trying to get up hills, etc

Over 45 motorway miles, my commute into work on a morning.

(may have been some sketchy hyper miling techniques going on, don't tell the advanced driving section)

I can easy get 50+mpg bimbling along at 55-60ish and without upsetting anyone.

I was putting thought to this at the weekend. After borrowing a Citroen DS4 with a 1.6turbo engine and only managing 34mpg, it highlighted what a great engine the F4R is and how efficient it is for it's output. Considering it's rather long in the tooth now something that will put out ~170bhp yet still return these sorts of averages is rather impressive.
