Clio Stereo Change Questions

Hi. I need a little help.
Missus has a clio 1.2 extreme thingy on an 05 plate and I want to get her a decent new stereo for her bday so she can connect her iPod to it. Have seen various things such as a wiring kit which plugs into the existing stereo where a multichanger normally would, and has an aux port. To a jvc stereo kit which apparently has everything you need to make both the LCD display and the remote buttons work. Trouble is pretty much all of them say Clio up to such and such date 2005 and I have no idea of the build date. Is there a way I can tell which stereo or wire is compatable? I cannot start taking it apart as I want it to be a surprise anad I can't get pics of the current stereo yet as I can't find her keys.
Any ideas how I can tell? If the wire way is any good? Any recommendations on stereos if not? Bear in mind she is a woman so doesn't appreciate brand names on electrical stuff and doesn't listen to music loud with plenty of bass etc.
