I'm in need of a bit of advice concerning the pricing and disposal of a Renault Clio 197, the step son had decided he no longer needs it and has dropped it on his mother and myself to get rid of it... being that the finance is in his mother's name.

It's a 56 plate registered Sept 06 in a kind of champagne / grey colour, I'm not sure of the exact spec as we don't have all of the documentation, currently on its fourth owner and has done bang on 33,000 miles. Needs a service and both front wheels re-furbing, one has minor rim scuffs, the other has scuffs to rim and face. Tyres are good all round but there are a few parking scuffs (nothing major though)

What kind of price do you think we should pitch it at for a quick sale? (service will be done prior to sale +6 months tax)

No idea what it's worth but if you want a quick sale just take some photos and whack it on ebay. I've always got good money for cars and bikes on there.

Sounds like Nimubus Grey which is a lovely sought after colour.

£6250 sounds cheap but would probably sell quickly!

£5,995 on PH. And, even at this price it needs to be a well worded ad, with really good photos, and properly presented, with any silly niggles resolved.

It sounds nice enough, but there are a lot of 197s and 200 Clios for sale and most are, IMO, over priced and not selling.

Dealers price high to allow for haggling or p/ex allowances, but private sellers are often too ambitious.

Thanks for the advice folks, the prices suggested are in line with what we're looking to achieve to cover off the outstanding finance.

One last thing, I've not got a spec sheet for the car, what are the key options I should look for to see if it has them? I know its got the keyless entry and I think Xenon headlights but I'm not sure what else is standard or an optional extra.

Keyless entry means its a normal 197 (not a cup) as that is standard on those.
Climate control isn't standard but AC is (difference is CC has cross pad buttons and AC has dials)

Optional extras for 197 non CUP (off the top of my head)
Cup pack (most noticeable by red brembos and anthracite alloys)
Xenons (black surround lights) some people fit these after and if not from factory they will not have the cornering lights.
Spoiler
Recaros
Panoramic sunroof
Automatic wipers and/or lights
Various pieces of trim (steering wheel, gearknob, exhaust tips, skirts and splitter)
Extra tints on the rear windows (you get standard tint then a much darker level)

there are different stereos and different levels of speakers.
Some have tweeters, fronts and rears. Others only fronts and rears. There seems to be little pattern as to who gets what as I had base spec stereo but all my speakers.
The upgraded stereo is noticeable by having the actual stereo under the passenger seat (an amp basically) whereas the base spec just has a head unit.
There is also a dock connector type thing that is an upgrade and that can be found by a USB port in the glove box.
Edit to add: I think there was a 6 CD changer version also so there are 3 different stereo set ups for the 197.

I think thats most of them although I may have forgotten something

I've been cautiously looking for a 197/200 for a month or so and, IMO, most cars are overpriced.

The internet site cars.trovit lists most of the 197s/200s for sale and there are over 80 pages of ads - that's several hundred cars!

I know these cars aren't selling easily, and certainly not at the asking prices. Colour, Spec, Condition, Mileage, History, No. Owners, originality all make a difference. And this is supposed to be a good time of the year to be selling. In a few months time it will be even more difficult.

It's definitely a buyers' market.

Thanks for the info Tia, we've placed an ad on PH now;

It's certainly not in concourse condition but mechanically it seems sound, if anyone's seriously interested drop me a mail for more info on the car.

Sorry mate but without the service history I think you're going to be very lucky to sell at over £6000.

What has webuyanycar quoted you?

Steve, fair comment, we're just trying to mitigate / minimise the shortfall on the finance. We've had an fairly decent offer from a local garage which I think we'll take if we don't get any interest by the end of the week - basically we're looking for offers as close to 6k as possible.

Webuyanycar.com, tried them before and wouldn't waste my time with them again, chancers of the highest order.
