Clio key problem

Hello,

Looking for some advice on fixing the spare key on my GF's 2000 Clio Grande.
The spare key will not start the engine but it will happily unlock all the doors with the remote or by turning the key in the lock. I will also turn the ignition on but wont start the engine.
It must be an immobilizer issue.

I spoke to Renault who say that I'll need a brand new key for £150 which I think is a bit steep!

Is there any way this key can just be reprogrammed or something by a specialist?

daughters boyfriend had same problem last month.he had to get a new key and have it programmed in. pay a bit extra and get 2 keys
