Hello,

the cambelt on my trusty 306 is about due (well probably a little overdue) and I have been thinking if getting this job done was worth it for a car of this age and value? It is a 1999 V plate and just shy of 120,000 miles. Happily it has just gone through its MOT no problem. It has the usual dings you would associate with a car of this age.

So, is it worth getting the cam belt done again and any idea of the cost? £400 seems to ring a bell with me for this job or take a flyer? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated

Sounds a bit steep to me,4 hrs labour and a belt kit and possibly waterpump and antifreeze while you are at it(£95 on ebay).More like £250-£300.

£400 definately steep. Other question is even if it did cost £400, what car are you going to buy for £400 that you'd be better off with? Could be a car needing a new cambelt!

True, probably one to bite the bullit with. Just rang the garage near work which are normally reasonable and been quoted £402 with a water pump change yikes

It might be abit of a drive from where you are, but cg cars in leicster are pretty good. I think it was somewhere between £200-250 for cambelt+waterpump+fresh coolant a few years back.

Just checked my cars receipt book, and it had the cambelt done at CG Cars in March 2010 and it came to £265 total (that was when it was 17.5%)

My cars a 306 GTi-6 btw, same age, 1999 and 108k miles when it was done.
