Hi guys,

I've been the owner of one of these brilliant cars for a while now, just seeing if there are any other people on here who own one?

Now - Replacement panels
I'm in need of a new boot and door, the door has been driven into and has been that way since I have bought the car, and the boot lid has lost all lacquer and the paint has been damaged. Maybe worth a respray?

The colour isn't Sorrento green, rather Oberion I think. Very slightly different, and the perfect situation would to find someone breaking an STDT. If you're reading this and fancy shifting some body panels from your yard then leave a post!

Day I brought it down from up t'north, all cleaned up and looking fairly presentable!

Any other 205 STDT owners on here??

Got alot of time for these....probably the first "warm" diesel hatch. That engine re-wrote the rulebook for diesels back in the 80's.

My dad has a Sorrento green 405 1.9TD. Same alloys as yours too by the looks of things, although his are missing a few centre caps wink

What suspension setup did these cars have, same as the GTI's?

Those alloys are sought after by us rally folk - much more solid than the standard 1.6 alloys which bend at the site of gravel.

iirc same suspention and brakes

Would love a go in one of these just as much as a gti simply so I can say i've driven each engine type although I doubt i'll ever get to drive a simca engined one!

The suspension setup really isn't the same as the GTI's, as you can probably see the STDT rides a lot higher and although the suspension is fairly firm, it's wallowy in the corners if you know what I mean. Still sticks to the road fairly well and is so much fun to throw about

The brakes may well be the same as the GTI, fairly big discs on the front and drums on the back

A lot of people do put the 309 GTI rear beams on and drop the front and apparently that makes these cars run on rails. And I wouldn't dispute that!

I've got 3 out of 4 centre caps (bummer!) and the alloys are in real need of a refurb, paint's peeling a bit all round.

I've read somewhere that they are definitely Sorrento Green, can anyone confirm this at some point?

Great cars, My dad has had one (green) from a year old and still has it now, I used it for around a year and it was brilliant. So good I bought one myself (gold), did around 30k in it. Very reliable but been an old car it allways wanted the wear and tear come MOT time. Id love another one day. Il try find some pics of the old one!

Looks fairly Sorrento to me from the pics.

What you really want though is a 1.9 TDi engine from a 306 in there. I had planned to do one myself, but then I needed the donor car for commuting...

It's not sorrento green, more like atlantic blue.

It runs the same subframe, droplinks and wishbones as the GTI - just different springs / shocks as the weight of the iron block diesel unit is considerably more.

Different places tell me different things. I think the best way of sorting it would be to park a proper sorrento gti next to it!

It's surprising how often these STDT's are cropping up on ebay when apparently there's only 189 currently taxed and being driven. There's not been any in spectacular condition but all will get you from A to B (hate that phrase)

Open the bonnet - by the battery on the inner wing, in white, should be a paint code -

EPY GL is atlantic blue
MORM is Sorrento Green

Oberon Green, confirmed by the paint code, MOSB

Very nearly lost it a couple of months back, water pump went and it was minutes away from going to the scrappy! All fixed up, once the starter motor is replaced I'm certain it's got a few more years service at the very least!

Recently painted the fog lights yellow, the only exterior changes I'm going to make. I think they look good, green body panels and all. Just ignore the number plate which is slightly on the wonk...blame the fox that I hit

A mate of mine had a 205 van many many moons ago, XRD model seems to ring a bell. He fitted a GTi front bumper, 1.6 GTi alloys, and a 1.8TD engine from a 309. It was a really nippy little thing, until it met its demise upon colliding with a sheep! I seem to remember him buying parts from Coventry Peugeot Specialists, but I have no idea if they are still in business.

I bet they are not? If they are do not go near them.I bought a BE3 "recon" gearbox from them many years ago.It was full of secondhand bits, even had miss matched C/W & pinion.

Have you tried adjusting the fuel pump yet? I've just bought a 306 1.9td and after just 45 minutes of spannering and a couple of test runs it's transformed it! I expect the 1.8td would react similarly.

A friend had one in black with gold steel wheels and it looked the nuts!
