When it has been left for a day or to, it is tricky to start. The starter motor kicks in fine after a few tries but if u let it idle it dies soon. frown

The battery is strong i think. It can turn over the engine fine.

Can glowplugs be the cause? Onse it it started for the first time, it needs some gas to idle properly for the first few secs or it cuts out again.

I should add this is only happening on cold starts.

It is my dads car. It does less than 10k a year and he gets it serviced whenever the mot is due which i think is in april?

Put a one way valve between the fuel filter and the pump ,that should sort it.
