A friend is having a problem with a 205 MI16 conversion. The engine came with a BX loom and a 119 ECU. Engine all installed and ready to start - but that is the problem, we aren't getting a spark. The coil is good (tested by putting a plug into the HT side and grounding the signal wire from the ignition amplifier).

I understand the ECU won't allow a spark unless the crank sensor is functioning - how can I test this with a volt meter? Or how can I test the ignition amplifier is functioning correctly?

You should be able to test for continuity, the pins of the crank sensor are numbered, 1 is in the middle.Check for resistance between 1+2 and 1+3(IF my memory is correct ,it must be 10 years ago the last time i did this) .
