307 Air Con issues

Hi,
Ive got a 07 307hdi 1.6 110, today the air con lost the plot. Blowing only cold air through the drivers side vents. Also the air coming out was extreeemly cold, to the point where a cold vapour (think 80s pop video) could be seen coming from the vents! I've notice a slight 'hissing' noise when turning the air con on lately, but not really paid any attention to it. Car is under warrenty and the dealership suggested the compressor is on the way out. I disagree as the air is relaly cold, and this doenst explain the unballenced temperature. A quick google revealed that its not an uncommon fault.
Any ideas what it could be before it goes into the garage?
