Hi folks, quick question my Sister has asked, she has a 2000 Peugeot 206 2 litre HDI Turbo, did an oil and filter change to a cheapo 5/40 oil as per the shops recommendation, and the engine now sounds like a tractor. The assumption from some mechanically minded people is she needs thicker oil, possily 10/40 or 15/40, but the wonderful chaps at Halfords were clueless. What would you all recommend? Many thanks in advance.

I use 5/40 fully synthetic in all my customers 2.0hdi engines, never had a mechanical problem.Usual cause of noise are, crank pulley or auxiliary belt tensioner bouncing.

10/40 or 15/40 oils are not "thicker" at normal operating temperatures!
