I am dangerously close to pulling the trigger on a dirt cheap GTi-6 I found.

It has 215K on the clock, new engine due to cambelt failure 60K miles ago, one owner from new. Cambelt burst on "new" engine, again, new head done as a result.

Current engine has done 150K.

Full service history, 30K since last cambelt change.

It's not a minter, interior is very worn according to seller, rear bench is missing due to seller spilling battery acid on it some 10 years ago. Apparently he doesn't need it.

Rear beam is OK according to seller. Just had a puncture today, so looking at new rubber. Can I replace just one tyre?

Am I looking at a moneypit?

That wouldn't be worth more than £600 in the UK with tax and mot.

If it really is a bargain then why not?

Well it'll need a new cambelt. The recommended cambelt swap is 30,000 ish miles within the owners club. Peugeot recommend more, but thats why they snap so much.

You'll be adding on a fair bit for the cambelt change. Personally i wouldn't pay anymore than £400 for it, but then they are readily available and cheap in the UK. £1000 will get you one that shouldn't cause you any grief over here.

Listen for tapping in the engine, as normally they are poorly repaired. If its a non tapper, might be worth a punt. HTH

I know cars in Denmark cost a lot of money. In the UK that car is scrap only. £3-400 if it has a decent amount of Tax and MOT, worth more in parts.

Go for it.

I friend of mine and well known Peugeot authority and restorer has been competing in Sprints, in standard class, in one - mileage is at 256k and going strong.
It's been lowered and that's about it, not even had an engine rebuild.

The car is used on a daily basis by another member of the family.

I think there must be some concours spec cars around judging by this thread.

Scrap?? Jesus H Christ! It's done a few miles, so what? Engine runs well, beam looks ok. If there are no other major issues to scrap that would be mental. Especially if it's to put the engine in a less capable 205 shell.

Just my 2 penneth. Hope the car proves to be a good'un.

Seller wouldn't really budge on price after the flat tyre, so I went and bought myself an absolutely mint 1-owner 106 Rallye S1 from 1996 with power steering and airbag. Bianca White by the way (-:

Pics will follow soon.
