Hi all -

I've been a long time reader of PH but never got round to posting....

The other week I picked up a lovely Mk1 MX5 for not a lot of money - I called in to see my mum and showed her my new purchase. Needless to say she was impressed and has now decided that she'd like to find a 2CV after owning one years ago and loving it. She'd like my help but sadly I know nothing about what to look for in 2CVs.

So I'd like your help....I've searched for topics but haven't found anything so I'd be appreciative of any guidance that you can give...what should I be looking for / looking out for?

Mine was killed off back in 1998 but from memory

Rust is your biggest enemy

Floor pans, boot floor and foot wells
Just under and around the screen

Not much on them to go wrong

IIRC suspension "pivot points" where the suspension arms mount are prone to a wear which can be expensive to repair.

Poor starting is usually down to the points,(which not many people seem to realise they have)
the points are located in a box behind the cooling fan and are a bit of a job to get to/

Remove grille over fan
loosen fan bolt (can be difficult)
remove fan
remove rubber flap over points box
remove rusted in screws to get cover off
replace points and adjust
rebuild car.

Inboard front drums are a PITA to work on.

As odyessy says rust is your biggest enemy, however the majority of cars now will have had the chassis replaced with a galvanised one.
That leaves the body, everywhere rots but the worst part to repair is the rear. The rear sweeps ,inner arches boot floor and rear panel(this is a £200 part). The floors, cills innner and outer bulkheads and bonnet hinge are relatively easy to sort.
You should be able to find a good example for £2500 to £3000,look on ebay(some restored ones are £7000+) 2cvtv.com or 2cvgb
Any questions you can always contact me through my profile .
This is the sort of thing to buy
