where to find a 205 Roland Garros wheel...?
Discussion
Think I might struggle here, but I need to find a replacement wheel for my 205 Roland Garros. I'm not very up-to-date in the Peugeot forum world, so can anyone please help suggest where I should ask?
To explain this a bit further, there were only 1000 Roland Garros cars made, and that was in 1990. I think the wheels were unique to this edition, meaning that there won't be many to go round.

Can you send in a pic`? I think the wheels on a Roland Garros are the same as a 1.9 205 GTi.Try Dean Hunter at www.peugeotparts.co.uk (01977677887) or www.clubpeugeotuk.org.

You have got me there? nothing like a GTi, they must be unique to a Roland Garros.Have you tried the above??As said, those wheels were an option on XS and GT models (possibly others too) and are not especially rare, so you should be able to track one down easily enough I'd say.
In addition to the forums mentioned, keep an eye on eBay too as I've seen the odd brand new one appear on there before now, usually not selling for much as they're not particularly in demand.
Good luck!

This is mine - a hatch.
650 hatchbacks / 450 cabrios made as far as I'm aware, all in 1989.
Bit of an oddball car really - typical old French stuff in that it feels like it's made of tissue paper, it's full of squeaks and rattles and massively inferior in respect of build quality compared with the similar vintage Nova GTE I've got. That said, it's run for 10 years with almost no maintenance (except a new engine when the missus filled it with diesel...!).
Handling is pretty poor - too much roll, steering too fast for the chassis, insufficient compliance in front axle and the brake balance is dreadful - locks the fronts up very easily.
But...
It's got the TU3S engine (AX GT spec) and really does go like the clappers - engine characteristic is perfect, and fits the gear ratios perfectly. I reckon Peugeot really did know what they were doing back then...
And who couldn't be taken in by the tart's boudoir interior!!!!
Respect! (sort of)

I'd question whether that lack of maintenance has taken its toll on the suspension and bushes, as assuming that it's the same as an XS/GT in terms of suspension, the handling should be fantastic and in many ways I actually prefer it to the GTi, as the complete lack of weight in the nose makes it so agile and eager to turn-in. It's beautifully balanced for a FWD car and can be steered on the throttle just like in its better known GTi brother, and just works wonderfully as a package.Handling is pretty poor - too much roll, steering too fast for the chassis, insufficient compliance in front axle and the brake balance is dreadful - locks the fronts up very easily.

Certainly it's softly sprung by modern standards and has fairly modest anti-roll bars which means a fair bit of bodyroll, but that's not really detremental to the handling, and simply makes it so predictable when pushed. Most of the rest of your critisms don't ring true to me from examples that I've owned and driven, although of course much is subjective and hard to quantify - if anything for example I'd say the steering rack was a little slow (like all non-PAS 205's).
The TU3S engine and 'box combo is fantastic too, begging to be revved and made the whole thing fun and frantic. I sorely miss XS as it was such an underrated car - it wasn't that quick, didn't have huge amounts of cornering grip, and certainly didn't have all the bells and whistles - but frankly it was all the better for it.
Yes you're probably right!!
205s are probably a victim of their own strength to a certain extent, as they don't appear to rust at all and so see no maintenance until they literally won't move any longer, whereas anything else of the same vintage (eg the Nova I mentioned) would have been taken off the road years before and either binned or completely overhauled. So there'll be a lot of complete knackers out there, still running!
I had a drive in a new AX GT on a fleet car event years ago (do I sound old?) and thought it was great. I suspect an AX is really a 205 in drag...
