Not mine, it's the MIL's - it broke at the weekend when she tried to pull on to a roundabout. Broken cambelt is the diagnosis anyway...

It's a quick, ish, one really - is it terminal and is it expensive to fix - I ask as they have it in for repair and I think they'd like to have a rough idea as to what it'll cost them...

Dependant on the extent of the damage, I would guess anywhere between £700 & £3000 (£700 if there is no damage (unlikely) or £3k for a new engine)

How old is the car? Is the belt overdue? (normal schedule is 5yrs or 72k)

The figures there weren't far off what I thought - the car is, I think, a 54 plate but I suspect it's not been done as they would have gone for the 72k schedule. I'll ask.

And thanks smile

no worries. If the car was a bit younger and belt not due I would say call renault but it's unlikely they will help if the belt is overdue.

The above prices were if the work is done at a Renault dealer so would probably be cheaper at an indi.

It's at their "trusted" mechanic who has seen them right in the past - I hope it's not a big bill as they've had a few of those recently...

This is about right, mine went 2,000mi after I'd initially had it replaced irked at just over £600 to put right as thankfully there was no damage. On-going battle with the garage who fitted the 1st replacement...
