Rather than be forced to watch the royal wedding, my mate came up with the idea of taking some 1/32 scale transit van models and converting them into scalextric cars, to race on the day.

It was a great laugh and the 'tranny' proved to be quite handy on track - well, once I've grafted it onto a Nissan GTR chassis at least wink

Body mods kept to a minimum and livery oviously an homage to 'Lightning McQueen'. I designed all the artwork for all the decals and ran them out on special inkjet paper that's self adhesive (both white and transparent backed). Then just a case of carefully cutting them out and applying - job done. Suffice to say, my 6 year old son loved it! smile

Here's the original 1/32 transit plastic fantastic cheapo eBay model

Stripped of unnecessary components, bodywork modded and sprayed

Livery decals prepped

Livery applied and bodywork mated to scalextric chassis

The track smile

The line-up

Far more fun than watching pomp and ceremony! yes

HI Stig,

Do you still have this excellent Scalextric van racing setup?

If so I'd be interested in hiring it from you for an exhibition I'm organising at Olympia in the March.

I work for a company that provides a logistics solution using our fleet of over 300 vans and drivers, your Scalextric van racing setup would be perfect to bring people to our exhibition stand and help stimulate conversations about the own van/driver delivery service we provide.

Let me know if you can help.

Thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Whilst I have the Lightning 'Van McMann', the track and other vans were built by mates of mine so don't exist as a set? I may be able to track them down, but this was 6 years ago!? That said, it wouldn't be hard to setup a track and you'll be far more limited on space than we were in the workshop.

Ironically, I run an events and exhibition company!

Will let you know if I can get the old 'fleet' back together. You not at the Commercial Vehicle show in April then?

Excellent Stig, I've responded by PM.

Many thanks, Dave.
