Nice collection.

I've still got an old 1:43 resin model of the prototype 6R4 in Red and White (without the large front and rear wings). It was a very nice little model.

EDIT: It was a Grand Prix Models one. Really good for its age: turned aluminium wheels, nice windscreen transparency too.

Very nice! Trying to get hold of one of the plain test cars.

These are some of the better models by Ixo.

You need to convert one to a model of Tim Painter's car...

Hard luck. Thinking about it: It was a fairly advanced model for its time: photo etch wipers!! I'm tempted to strip the crappy paint job off mine and repaint it having seen that price...

Yup: you inspired me to dig my old one out of the loft. Considering I built it on the 27th January 1986 (when I was 15) it's not too badly built. A bit of fettling and neater painting around the window rubbers, a coat of Klear, and it will look great. Looking at it closely, it really is an extremely good moulding.

But £60...?

Did a bit of research: Produced by Grand Prix Models in 1984, and - apparently - they only made 1000 kits. Most are presumably built by now, hence the rarity and corresponding price of an unbuilt kit!

And having had a close look at your pic, the style of parts breakdown and the wheels and tyres I'd say it was mastered/produced for GPM by Starter

I'll take your word for it. The underside has "GRAND PRIX MODELS ENGLAND" cast into the resin.

By the time this kit appeared GPM had all but given up producing their own stuff in house and were concentrating on developing the "other brands" shop side of things which has evolved to this day, their own range of built models that they marketed around this time were were produced for them by the likes of Brooklyn and Somerville (I think). Back to the proto 6R4, I remember looking at one in their display case in the Radlett High Street shop thinking "next visit I'll have one of those" - the short run explains why that never happened!! At the risk of expanding the "scale" of this thread has anyone else got the Profil 24 resin kit - it has to be the best 6R4 kit to date, if anyone is interested I'll get some pics posted of the kit.

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when the kit arrived. My Dad had bought me a white metal 1:43 Ferrari 156/85 F1 kit for Christmas, and there was a photocopied black and white GPM catalogue with it (remember it was 1986 long before the internet). Becasue we had a Metro, I thought a model 6R4 would be cool. I'd assumed it would be the Computervision version, but it turned out to be the prototype. I'm glad it was now because I like it much better without the wings.

I don't have the Profil 24 kit, in fact the GPM one is the only resin model I have ever built.

On the prototype version, does anyone know what the four 'inlet trumpet' looking things are on the rear deck?

No it's still a kit, it's the Computervision version from the Tour De Corse '86, sadly this was a very short run and sold out very fast, but you can still get the 33 Export car of Auriol.
