toy cars advice
Discussion
they used to fetch quite a bit. my uncle collected corgi/dinky and consequently bought me them for xmas/birthday's growing up, all of which are still mint and boxed. i have the complete corgi circus collection which cost a few hundred new and doubled in value as soon as it sold out. i checked on ebay last year and reckoned it was now worth less than £100. bummer.
Days Gone were always pretty awful - these are the ones by Lledo right? They were started by Jack Odell (Lledo is Odell spelt backwards) who once worked for Matchbox indeed he used some of the old Matchbox machinery after shipping it back from the Far East where it had ended up when the original Matchbox company went bust. Jack died in 2007 and Lledo themselves who had gone bust in 1999 were eventually taken over by Corgi. Their Vanguards range of 1/43 British cars were quite good (Corgi are still producing these) and there were some very nice Land Speed Record cars.
I just did a search for Days Gone on eBay and the most expensive single item that actually sold was not much over £20.

That circus collection is nearer a £1000 if it is mint/boxed,
is that for the originals though or the 90's reissue? the latter is what i have. i looked again on ebay and no single item was going for over £20-30. i also realised there are a few pieces i don't have, but might buy anyway now. i always thought they'd make a good display at some point. shirt said:

I collect/deal a little in older toys, generally the Days Gone models are unsaleable but there are a few rare models that are worth a few quid on their own. Dinky, Corgi and Lesney items especially original ones are more desirable but from recent experience the market has dipped at toy fairs and on anything other than very rare items on ebay. Specialist toy auctions seem to be giving the best returns on most toys at the moment.
I would be interested in looking at a list of the ones that you had to clear out though.

I think there is only 8
Each year, one of the diecast model magazines publishes an extensive price guide for all corgi, dinky and other more rarer model brands.
As many have said, most diecast do not increase in value over time, despite what some in the industry would like you to think.
Agreed, some go for silly money at auction, but this is not a sign of the true value of these items - remember they are made in their 10,000's and therefore are NOT rare at all.
You don't see Ford road cars increasing in money each year do you? But a McLaren F1 road car is a sound investment for some. The very same applies to diecast. All the major brands and the industry as a whole try to sell you this myth that they are 'collectable' in the sense of being able to make money in years to come...
...well sorry to burst the bubble folks but you won't be retiring off the back of your collections!
Don't get me wrong, I love diecast, I have bought 1000's over the years. Most have now gone via eBay, making very little more than their original retail, so in real terms they lost money. I now only collect a very select range of models, and eBay is the only place I buy from now.
It's great to find a model being sold so cheap yet in perfect condition. I've managed to build up my back catalogue of all Corgi's Eddie Stobart models and I got some fantastic bargains
Yes, some model retailers/mail order companies will hate me for buying off eBay, but why pay more for something when it's cheaper off eBay if you're prepared to do the home work.

On the flip side, when I did the toy fairs, I would set up the stand, have a mooch about and note some stuff, if it was a good price buy it, if not would wait until the end then have a cheeky punt, pack up the stall, head home and stick all the new buy on Ebay where I would almost always turn a quick profit.
Toy fairs are still a great place to buy/sell and you can haggle face to face
