I dug out my old Scalextric for my son's thrid birthday - he likes cars and fast things smile.

Anyway, I've got a track laid out but I don't seem to have any power. I know the power unit is working because I've connected up the startgin light gantry and that works as expected.

Neither cars work on either lane, but I have no instructions on how to connect up the controllers - currently I've just stuck them on the underside of the nearest track section to me.

Does anyone have any idea what I've done wrong? It's so long since I've used it...

Probably a break between track peices or a bad connection somewhere.

Best way to test is with a multimeter.

Set the controler to full power (tape it up) and then check the voltage across the two sides of the track and see where it drops.
Then you need to bend the tabs and use sandpaper to make the connection better.

My old track was terrible when I tried to use it again, some bits of rust and corrosion stopped it from working properly until I cleaned it all up.

A new scotchbrite is good for track cleaning.

Also check that the cars are working by putting one of those 9v batteries accross the brushes.
