Tamiya Pajero Metalbody Wide - anyone know a stockist?
Discussion
As per the title really. I'm after a Pajero, but given it was a limited run last year (and I'm late to the party), finding one is proving tricky.
I'm after a kit not an XB. There are some Touareg's floating about (same CC-01 chassis), but I'd prefer to start with the Pajero than re-bodying.
Anyone know of stock other than Hong Kong on fleabay!

I got mine from HK on Ebay - came in at £82 including shipping. Pound has fallen dramatically since then though. If you do get one from HK, Jason's Store on ebay is always a good bet.
I'm thinking I may have to buy from HK too. Did your instructions come in Engrish?Btw - I was looking at a Lunchbox too (and a Blackfoot Extreme etc.etc.).
I'm a bit torn as I want something that my 4 year old can play with too. The Pajero appeals as it's scale, 4WD and seems to run at a manageable speed. The lunchbox appeals because I remember the 1st issue and it's more craash/bash - but the 2WD and short wheelbase means it's great for wheelies - but not alot else and the Blackfoot Extreme appeals as it's a bit more Monster truck/capable off road. Oh, not forgetting the Dual Hunter - but given the attention span of a 4 year old, I'm conscious of maximising battery run times.
As you can see - it's doing my head in trying to choose!!!

I wouldn't let a kid loose with a Pajero. To get the scale looks they are very unstable, top heavy. Makes for fun crawling if you have the skill, but most kids just want the jam the throttle on full and drive it around. Doing this, even with the 35T crawler motor, it will roll.
Of those options I would get the LunchBox. It's the one I always take out for a bash, even when I have other cars as well. If you want to alter the handling characteristics it responds well to weighting. Your local hobby shop should have sticky weights, just stick a few grammes in the nose and you can get it to wheelie but not flip.
Mine has a brushless/lipo combo though, so will wheelie all day long. Does standing backflips as well...
Good fun to build for a kid as well, easy enough for them to do a lot of it, and they can paint the body themselves.
As I always say, you will never regret buying a lunchbox...

Thanks chap. I'll be doing the building so not an issue on that score. The reality is that I'm using the 'its for my son' excuse to replace my BigWig Of those options I would get the LunchBox. The lunchbox is a very good deal at £65 with ESC for the kit, but modelsports have a combo on the Blackfoot extreme at £129 which I'm tempted by too.
Mostly, it will be used in a paddock/lane. The grass can get pretty choggy, so I need something with plenty of ground clearance (and perhaps 4WD?).
So the choice seems to be CC-01 chassis'd car for slower speed/rock crawling type stuff (and despite its top-heaviness, it would probably get crashed less) or Lunchbox/Blackfoot Extreme/Dual Hunter for of a full-throttle experience.
Pro's/cons (to me) are:
Pajero - looks scale. Drives slow. Good potential to hop-up for better crawling ability (lockable diffs etc.), but - hard to get hold of and a tad more expensive (probably a LOT more once I've finished adding all the shiny bits to it ).
Lunchbox - fun good ground clearance, but short wheelbase (deliberately of course), good run times as 2WD, reminds me of being a kid again - but, may struggle on the grassy stuff where it will be used.
Blackfoot Extreme - a bit more stable than the lunchbox (longer wheelbase). Bit more off-road bias(?), long run times with 2WD - but, no 4WD, not really loving the styling
Dual Hunter - great traction / balance, ground clearance same as Blackfoot - but, shorter run times(?) with 2 motors/g/boxes - again, not that keen on the styling but it's growing on me.
In short, I need something with long run times (4600mAh batts are already on shopping list), great ground clearance and decent traction. Not as important are outright speed and handling.
Any other suggestions?
At this stage, I'd rather not outlay more than about £150 for it (to include tx/rx etc.)
Towerhobbies has them listed as being available in early June.
Might be worth asking the lads on http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums to see if any of the small traders have 'em.
The UK Crawlers at http://ukrcrc.com/forum/ might be able to help as well.

Well, influenced in part by herebemonsters, I've just ordered a re-issue Lunchbox! At £65 for the kit - it's hard to say no and means I can put a toe back into r/c water without divorce proceedings (I got over a ton for the BigWig after all )
I did get some hop-up parts for it (well, you have to don't you ). Bearings (of course), CVA shocks to stop it bouncing quite so much (got a cheap pair on eBay so will need to decide whether to put them on the front or back - head says front for now until I get another pair), LED kit and some other odds and sods.
I opted for a Model Sports combo which included a decent charger, Acoms Techniplus (would prefer 3-channel really - perhaps a 2.4GHz Acoms/Futaba/Spektrum rig if I get back 'in' to it) 2200mAh NiMh pack etc. for £132 all-in and have added a pair of 4600mAh 7.2V packs to go with it! My lasting memory (and biggest gripe) with my old Tamiya's was the dire run time - 5 mins max on an 8.4V race pack. Hopefully with these puppies, the ESC and bearings 1/2 hour per pack should be eminently do-able.
The price (of course) is the recharge time - but you can't have it all!
Which leads me to another question?
What d'you reckon offers the best value for money vs. performance vs. re-charge?
Going by Vapextech prices (thanks Roop!) the 4600s aren't exactly the best value, but saves swapping out packs more frequently.
So, given the option of the following - what would you opt for? (ie - the more initiated than me!).
3300 @ £11.95 each
3700 @ £13.95 each
4300 @ £19.50 each
4600 @ 23.50 each
By my reckoning (simplistically), the two 4600s I bought give me an equivalent of 9200mAh of power (obviously there's more science to it than that!)
Given that 3 x 3300's would have given ma 9900mAh combined at only £35.85 (vs. £47 for 2 x 4600s) - would that have been a better bet?
Obviously the ideal world is to have enough packs that charge quickly enough to give you uninterrupted running (though I'm sure the motor/gearbox/esc etc. won't be mad keen on that idea )
Thoughts please gents?

If discharge/recharge time is your issue, get a couple of LiPo packs. Never need to be discharged, you just top up the level in the battery when you need to.
A decent charger should charge any battery in an hour or so. I'd rather go for a couple of higher capacity batteries than loads of smaller ones - less hassle changing them around, and more initial punch from the battery.
In the LunchBox for running on grass I'd also recommend an uprated motor, something like a Tamiya Sport Tuned, or even a SuperStock BZ for the extra torque. Don't be tempted by anything cheap - the cheap motors are usually alright in a lightweight vehicle, but won't work in a truck.
For example, my Hornet is currently blasting around with an Ansmann 15T motor I picked up for £3. Fast as it can manage really, great fun. Same motor in the LunchBox and it wouldn't even wheelie.
I'm currently running a brushless motor in the LunchBox, and with a decent LiPo it's just insane...

Then again, I'm already looking at adding a Midnight Pumpkin, Blackfoot Extreme, Pajero etc.etc.etc. to the collection
Oh - and Tamiya should pull their finger out and re-release the Rough Rider/Sand Scorcher! I would have given an arm for a Sand Scorcher back in the day!!! Never fulfilled the dream...... then

Not exactly cheap though is it. Whilst I love the RR, it's the SS I've always lusted after. Then again - lots of die-cast bits....
Are they going to release the Sand Scorcher?
