1:18s we'd like to see
Discussion
Just a thought - I'm guessing this forum falls into two camps - R/C and 'display' (I'm a 'display' model person myself - both kits and diecast). Predominately I collect 1:18 scale, but recently I find myself wondering why certain high-profile classic cars (most modern cars are modelled without so much as by-your-leave) have escaped the model companies' radars altogether.
Maybe if we start a list, the likes of AutoArt, Kyosho and Maisto will sit up and take notice.
I'll start off by saying I'd like to see a model of the 1967-1989 Aston Martin DBS/V8. There are models in existence of the DB2/4 Mk III, DB4 GT Zagato, DB5 - and then there's a leap to the DB7. All the classic V8-engined cars remain criminally unrepresented from DBS to Virage Vantage V600 via Lagonda. I was hoping the DBS and V8 might have ended up in that 1:18-scale 'Bond Cars' collection (they've got the Corvette that isn't driven by Bond and seen for about 30 seconds in A View To A Kill ferchrissakes). I know Solido did a truly shoddy-looking 1:24-scale V8 Vantage Volante (ie the ugliest incarnation of the lot), but it didn't do it justice.
Others I think might sell well if they were modelled are the Jensen Interceptor, Lincoln Continental Mk IV, Toyota MR2 MkI, Alpine-Renault GTA Turbo, Bond Bug, Iso Grifo, Maserati Sebring, NSU Ro80, Scimitar GTE, Saab 99 Turbo, Triumph TR8 rally car, and the Lotus Carlton.
More niche appeal, but still lucrative I reckon, would be a run of 10 '90s TOCA 'S2000'-era championship-winning touring cars. Kyosho would do this sort of thing well:
1991 Will Hoy 'Listerine' BMW 320iS
1992 Tim Harvey 'Shell' BMW 318i
1993 Joachim Winkelhock 'MSport' BMW 318i
1994 Gabriele Tarquini 'Alfa Corse' Alfa Romeo 155 Silverstone
1995 John Cleland 'Team Vauxhall' Vauxhall Cavalier GSi
1996 Frank Biela 'Audi Sport' Audi A4 Quattro
1997 Alain Menu 'Williams' Renault Laguna
1998 Rickard Rydell 'TWR' Volvo S40
1999 Laurent Aiello 'Vodafone' Nissan Primera
2000 Alain Menu 'Team Mondeo' Ford Mondeo

Super Touring models would be a great idea, same as the Lotus Carlton. Ive always been a rally boy so my votes:
MG Metro 6r4
Opel Ascona 400
Vauxhall Astra GTE Mk2(road, rally & race versions)
Ford Escort RS Turbo S1(road, rally & race versions)
Toyota Celica GT4(st165, 185 & 205)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 1 to 5

I think that the trouble is that the majority of model manufacturers are nore from the UK, and therefore manufacturing cars and race car replicas from cars that were popular in this country is not a priority due to the limited audience vs break even sales volumes.
I'd love to see some BTCC Sierra / M3 / Supertourer 1:18 replicas, as well as some domestic rally replicas too, e.g. 1:18 Tony Pond 6R4 or Russell Brookes "Andrews Heat for Hire" cars.
I'd also like to extend my road going fast ford collection with a really good 1:18 Saph Cos, a Series 1 RS Turbo Escort or RS1600i.
Even some mainland European cars seen to have escaped too. Mk1 Golf Campaign, and R5 Raider "Where are you??????"
