I have an RC Helicopter(Battery powered) which is alot of fun, but after watching these EDF RC jets on youtube, I think I'll get one.

If anyone has any suggestions about what to get I'd really appreciate it.

I would get a nitro one to train with first, otherwise it's like getting a Veyron as your first car.

Jets are like the F1 of RC planes, expensive, fast, and not for the novice. you don't want to spend £5k on one only to dump it the first time you try to take off. They can be quite a handful to keep in the air.
There are various EP and GP trainers you can get which will help to learn the skills you need. Find a local club and see what training you can do with them first.

The edf ones are actually quite inexpensive to buy. Battery powered but, some are good for 80mph.

I'd love a proper jet engined one. scratchchin

post this on the appropriate forum perhaps?!

There is a model section, sure you will get a better response there.

A spare one (or maybe two). A mate of mine had numerous model jets, as well as being a commercial and aerobatic pilot - part owner of various Yaks, Extras and Pitts (in fact, he sold his shares in a couple of them to me) The models have gone, but he's still punting around in a Pitts Model 12 (not the cheapest thing to operate in the world) on he ground the models were getting stupidly expensive, and all too easy to wipe out.

5k jets?????????????/
I am suddenly quite excited.
What the hell are these things that cost 5k?
Where do I get one?
Why are they better than any old RC Plane?
Please tell me that they are actual mini jets

they are indeed. £5k is fairly basic one last time I looked at them...

EDF ones are on the other hand usually a block of moulded foam with an electric motor in. Personally find them quite boring! Had a couple, never flown either of them for more than a few minutes. If you want action I'd go for a 3D aircraft, if you want speed go for a pylon racer. If you want swept wing stupidity just get a delta flying wing and strap a way overpowered prop motor to it.

With "real" RC jets at least you get the sweaty palmed nervousness of knowing you could lose the equivelant of a fairly nice car with just a misplaced twitch of the thumb.

Just my tuppence worth!

Ducted fans are quite a lot different to 'jets'!

Not sure why this thread got moved to an 'appropriate' forum when many, many other threads could be moved to more 'appropriate' forums.

Oh well.

I actually think that even building a model turbine (let alone the aircraft to put it in) would be bloody great fun.

Best candidate has to be a Lightning... I'm sure you could get a realistic PWR!!! Would cost a bit though...

if i were you i'd learn to fly normal fixed wing like a trainer first, then when you've mastered that go onto electric ducted fan unless you find you're amazing at trainers and anything faster than that and then go blow loads of money on a gas turbine powered jet.

it's expensive, you can't fly it all the time but the smell of burnt aviation fuel in the morning is worth every penny.

heres my very first jet flight many many moons ago

and heres the engine on test
