Model Railways/ Trains
Discussion
Anyone else in here onto model railways and trains?
I currently have a large collection(probably ~1000 items), mostly 00 RTR, although I do have a small amount of kit and scratch built 009 models.
However I don't have any layout at the moment I keep promising myself one (or two)
So, show us your layouts and collections.

I can't show it (because it's 'archived' in boxes) but I have a large amount of...... So, show us your layouts and collections.

Märklin HO stuff from the late '50s/early '60's.
When I say large, I doubt if it's anywhere near your 1000 items, even if I count each piece of track as an item!!!

I have a load of '00' Lima, Hornby and Dapol stuff from when I was younger (I was train mad when I was a young lad). I always wanted to build a layout but we never really had the space. I still quite fancy knocking up a little branch line or something and running it along a wall, but now it is lack of time more than anything that stops me. I think all my stuff is destined to stay up in thge loft until I retire!

Hi there
I build model railways but they are usually industrial narrow gauge in theme. I exhibit them all over the country, which can be quite fun. Here is a link to a page from my website:

Although I strive for realism in my actual model making, I do collect old Hornby/Bassett Lowke '0' gauge tinplate, Hornby Dublo (3-rail) and Lone Star. I also have a few Aster live steam gauge-1 engines. Fantatsic!

That is really very impressive! How much time do you spend on them? I would love to be able to build something like that.I build model railways but they are usually industrial narrow gauge in theme. Have you been building a long time? I will admit to trying to scratch build a Class 13 shunter using a couple of second hand Lima Class 09's I bought when I was younger, it looked OK and I was very proud of it (I think I was about 13) I still have it up in the loft somewhere.

I've been into model railways since I was a child. Nantyglo Mine took over a year to build but that is 'as and when' I had a few hours available (or felt like it). I design/build the whole thing in my head first and them I build it for 'real'. Because I build small layouts, I can spend the time getting the details right.
I am building a new layout at the moment called Yellow Ridge Mine (set in Canada). There are some construction pictures on my website here:

If you fancy having a go at building something yourself (hint hint), I'll always try my best to point you in the right direction

I would love to get all my old gear out and have a go at building something but as with most things I a currently restricted by time. I love industrial stuff and always wanted to build something set in a factory, or refinery, somthing that involved lots of pipes and structures etc.
I think I'll head into the loft over Christmas and start playing around again though!

There's some great inspiration to be had here;

I'm suddenly realising that the new log cabin workshop I've built isn't going to be quite big enough for the N Gauge I was planning. I may have to hang onto the spare room a bit longer!

Wow, some really cool engines and layouts posted up, good work!
I dropped my car in for it's MOT on Friday and ended up go for a bit of a drive north of Cwmbran and I found a little railway museum and train shop that a guy has built himself from an old GWR goods shed that used to be part of the Monmouth Railway.
He had so much stuff inside and was happy to talk for ages, he was showing me all the state of the art digital controllers and that now the engines have sound effects. Has anybody tried these as he was telling me they sound very realistic?
