Anyone got one? Good/bad?

I see it's the same chassis as a couple of other kits with different bodies, the Toyota 40 series and the Jeep.

That chassis is pretty epic, it's the revised version of the Hilux metal chassis from the 80s. 3 speed transmission, leaf suspension, working diffs, it's a pretty cool truck. The body looks nicely detailed, I'd say there will be a lot of demand for a boyd only kit as well.

It's a very scalistic truck, so I would go jumping it or bashiing or racing it though, I suppoe depends what you want from a truck?

No it's not!
It's Tamiya's first go at the rock crawler market. It's meant to be pretty good, but http://www.ukrcrc.com/site/ will probably tell you more about it as I prefer racing to crawling!

I'm an idiot. I confused the CR-01 with the Hilux.

Thanks for the clarification!

If you register on http://www.ukrcrc.com/forum/ (and I recommend you do!) tell 'em insomniac referred you!

I've had a CR-01 Land Cruiser sat in it's box ready to be built for months. Not got around to it yet. From what I have discussed with friends who 'crawl' it's a pretty good entry into the wacky world of rock cawling. Some mods required to make it a bit stronger but there's all the advice you need already on the web in the crawler forums, Tamiya Club etc...

As mentioned, very different from the Hi-Lift models, although they too are fun to crawl with, they don't go as well as a purpose built machine. My Hi-lift (below) has locked diffs, modded suspension and bigger wheels. Goes really well.

Yes, there's a ton I don't have. That said I have had a large percentage of them at one point or another - certainly had pretty much every chassis variation they ever made if not every absolute body style / model.

I don't smoke, don't drink a lot, don't drive a fancy car - money tends to go on this stuff instead. Love r/c toys...! SWMBO thinks they are a bit gash, but you can't have everything smile

I've just seen your website too clap
Nice cars, I'm currently restoring a Holiday Buggy and Optima Mid, but would love a Boomerang. My brother is currently restoring a Super Sabre.

Back to the topic, I like the idea of a CR01 with a nice LandRover Defender shell on it.

Thanks smile Can't take all the credit for the body. My idea and decal set but implemented by a mate who's st-hot with a rattle can and 1500 wet-n-dry...
